Most organizations are adopting the Hybrid cloud as part of their infrastructure. It offers the best of all worlds with a potential balance of performance, TCO, legacy applications, security and compliance. Those that don’t have a hybrid cloud have a hybrid cloud strategy moving forward. To help organizations simplify their move to hybrid or multi-cloud solutions, Intel and Google are offering Intel Select Solutions for Google Cloud’s Anthos. This gives customers pre-tested, validated solutions that use existing VMware vSphere and VMware vSAN environment.
As we’ve previously stated, Anthos, as well as an optimized Kubernetes software stack (Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) On-Prem on VMware vSphere using the VMware ESXi), will help address these migration challenges. The companies state that Anthos will deliver a stack optimized for workload portability, enabling deployment of applications across on-premise data centers and public cloud provider services. Anthos works with both new and existing VMware environments and, according to Google, simplifies deployment and management, along with streamlining installs and upgrades validated by Google Cloud.
Intel and Google have been collaborating for some time, most notable for us was when Google announced support for Intel Optane DC persistent memory last year. The two companies state that Intel Select Solutions for Google Cloud’s Anthos can help eliminate costly downtime and upgrades by provide faster VM reboots, persistent memory, and predictable performance. Customers can also manage modern hybrid applications one time using Kubernetes optimized for Intel architecture and run them anywhere.
