GridIron OneAppliance Yields Gains for MultiPlan’s Healthcare Big Data

by Mark Kidd

GridIron Systems has announced that MultiPlan has adopted its All-Flash OneAppliance TurboCharger to better meet service level agreements (SLAs), produce business intelligence reports, and deliver increased functionality to concurrent users. MultiPlan processes in excess of 110 million claims per year and services 900,000 contract healthcare providers and 57 million consumers. MultiPlan, a healthcare cost management firm, estimates that the company has saved $400,000 in infrastructure capital expenses via its TurboCharger deployment.

OneApplicance TurboCharger is a SAN-attached Data Accelerator that leverages Flash, DRAM, proprietary hardware, and software to accelerate storage. TurboCharger is deployed between the server and storage, where it profiles the data access behavior of applications and creates a heuristics-driven map of the data space. The GridIron TurboCharger is transparent to the servers and storage arrays by acting as a Fibre Channel (FC) Proxy in order to fulfill I/O requests from applications instantaneously based on this real-time data map.

MultiPlan deployed two GridIron GT-1100A TurboCharger appliances into its Storage Area Network in an active-active cluster. TurboCharger continuously records the MultiPlan’s data access patterns, including MultiPlan’s Oracle data warehouse and business intelligence applications, and predictively caches data critical to application performance. For MultiPlan, this has resulted in performance gains of up to 500% as reports that previously took 123 hours to complete now finish in 25 hours.
