HGST has announced that it will extend the use of Intel NAND flash technology as part of a cooperative agreement with Intel Corporation on Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) SSDs. HGST successfully worked with Intel since 2008 to develop enterprise-class SAS SSDs for servers, workstations, and storage systems, resulting in products that combine HGST’s enterprise storage experience with Intel’s NAND flash expertise.
HGST has announced that it will extend the use of Intel NAND flash technology as part of a cooperative agreement with Intel Corporation on Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) SSDs. HGST successfully worked with Intel since 2008 to develop enterprise-class SAS SSDs for servers, workstations, and storage systems, resulting in products that combine HGST’s enterprise storage experience with Intel’s NAND flash expertise.
With Intel’s focus and investment in the research of NAND flash memory technology as well as SSD development, they will be able to provide advancements in next-generation NAND lithography and offer high-endurance SSD technology. This, coupled with HGST’s enterprise storage expertise in SAS design, firmware, reliability, customer qualification and system integration, will enable them to deliver solutions with the performance, endurance and reliability that enterprise storage customer’s demand.
The collaboration between HGST and Intel has already produced four generations of HGST SAS SSDs, and as such, HGST plans to continue to use Intel’s NAND flash technology in their enterprise-class SAS SSDs for three more years. In addition, these solutions will continue to be marketed and sold exclusively by HGST, and are part of HGST’s comprehensive portfolio of HDDs, SSDs, software and solutions that help data center managers build tomorrow’s IT infrastructures today. On the other side, this deal has protected the SATA SSD space for Intel, while both companies manufacture PCIe-based storage solutions.
