by Adam Armstrong

Today HP announced a new addition to its ConvergedSystem line, HP ConvergedSystem 250-HC StoreVirtual (CS 250). Like the HP ConvergedSystem 200-HC StoreVirtual, the CS 250 is a hyper-converged appliance that offers highly available virtual server and storage infrastructure. HP claims that CS 250 can be configured in minutes and is almost half the price of its competitors. The CS 250 is designed for virtual desktops and remote offices and offers companies an easy path to the hybrid cloud.

As hyper-converged systems are being increasingly adopted (year-over-year sales are up 116% according to IDC) HP is continuing to innovate its own line of ConvergedSystems. The CS 250 is built on HP’s x86 servers, utilizes Intel processors, and VMware’s virtual environments. This is combined with HP’s StoreVirtual SDS technology making it business continuity-enabled from day one. Not only does the CS 250 come out of the box ready to respond to new on-demand infrastructure and virtual desktop requirements, it is has a more flexible configuration making it a better fit in a wide range of virtualized environments, and its 3-node configuration makes it 49% more cost-effective than comparable configurations.

The CS 250 is preconfigured with either vSphere 5.5 or 6.0 and HP OneView InstantOn. This helps customers to have the solution production ready in 15 minutes (5 minutes of keyboard time). Users will have daily management through VMware vCenter via the HP OneView for VMware vCenter plug-in giving IT generalists a unified management experience for the appliance using tools they already know.

Also included are three 4TB StoreVirtual Virtual Storage Appliance (VSA) licenses. Companies can use the CS 250’s ability to replicate data to other HP StoreVirtual-based solutions and use their existing infrastructure as a replication target. Organizations looking for a cloud entry point can use HP Helion CloudSystem 9.0, which is built on the CS 250, as an easy, enterprise-grade solution that provides an easy path to the hybrid cloud.

HP is also announcing new Software-Defined Storage Design and Integration services. These services will help customers deploy highly scalable, elastic cloud storage services. Both services will help customers to design and integrate cloud storage services based on their specific needs.

And finally, HP is enhancing its Nitro partner program and opening it up to distributors around the world. The Nitro partner program was originally launched as a way to provide a 1TB HP StoreVirtual VSA license to customers at no cost. The new enhancements provide training to resellers to promote HP StoreVirtual and SDS infrastructure and help customers as they transition to a software-defined data center.

Availability and pricing

The HP ConvergedSystem 250-HC StoreVirtual will be offered in two configurations, a 4-node that is expected to be available on August 17th 2015 and a 3-node that is expected to be available on September 28th 2015. The starting list price will be $121,483.

The HP Software-Defined Storage Design and Integration services are available now.
