Today at HP Discover, HP announced that it was expanding its converged infrastructure portfolio. These new offerings include enhancements to its HP OneView 2.0 management platform, a new partnership with Arista Networks, and a series of new workload optimized reference architectures. These new offerings will give customers the flexibility they need to transform to hybrid architecture and at the same time, protect their existing IT investments.

These new offerings include enhancements to its HP OneView 2.0 management platform, a new partnership with Arista Networks, and a series of new workload optimized reference architectures. These new offerings will give customers the flexibility they need to transform to hybrid architecture and at the same time, protect their existing IT investments.
Vendor lock-in and the inability to integrate existing infrastructure with new applications are concerns that loom large in the minds of enterprises. Customers are looking more toward converged infrastructure in order to streamline storage, networking and compute assets for greater efficiency and business outcomes. While many new services and tools emerge the complexity of using and managing this new services are still a barrier. HP’s answer to this conundrum was OneView. OneView unifies processes, UI’s and APIs across HP server, storage, and Virtual Connect networking devices. HP states that OneView can be configured in 96% less time, it only takes 5 steps to deploy a VMware vSphere Cluster, and has nine times faster error resolution.
OneView 2.0 makes it even easier for customers to save time and reduce errors with new features such as automated server change management, server profile templates (making it easier to define firmware and driver baselines as well as server, LAN and SAN settings), and new profile mobility that enable migration and recovery of workloads across server platform types, configurations, and generations. For SAN administrators OneView delivers automation, proactive monitoring, and guidance enable administrators to find and resolve issues before they impact the entire system. Administrators will also be alerted to zoning errors, broken paths, and orphaned volumes across the SAN. OneView will provide configuration reports in order to make SANs more efficient.
OneView 2.0 also combines its knowledge of physical infrastructure with virtual machine management from HP Virtualization Performance Viewer. Knowing how virtualization clusters are striped across HP BladeSystem enclosures, customers can plan for new capacity requirements, better understand maintenance impacts, and mitigate configure risks.
HP announced a partnership with Arista Networks. Arista delivers software-defined networking solutions for datacenters, cloud computing, and HPC environments. This new partnership is beneficial for customers who are looking for flexibility in infrastructure that handles performance-intensive, virtualized and highly dynamic workloads. These new solutions are designed to support private, public and hybrid cloud applications while providing a flexible and open choice across compute and storage (including all-flash solutions with HP 3PAR StoreServ). The new solutions will also deliver simplified provisioning and ongoing maintenance. The combination of Arista Extensible Operating System with HP OneView will reduce expenses and minimize the impact on IT.
And finally, HP announced a series of new workload-optimized reference architectures that supports cloud and mobility. Today’s business needs dictate an IT environment that can be difficult to design, build and manage, not to mention loaded with risks, costs, and complexity. The new reference architectures are designed to help customers move to cloud-based models while cutting down risks and costs.
New Reference Architecture includes:
- Support for client virtualization workloads with HP Verified Reference Architecture for Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) with Citrix XenDesktop on VMware vSphere
- Support for unified communication and collaboration workloads with HP Verified Reference Architecture for Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint 2013 and HP Verified Reference Architecture for Microsoft Lync 2013
- Support for business continuity in virtualized workloads with HP Verified Reference Architecture for Disaster Recovery using 3PAR StoreServ Storage, VMware vCenter SRM, and HP Verified Reference Architecture for HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage and VMware vSphere 6.0
