The file storage data services deliver scale-out, enterprise-grade performance for data-intensive workloads, while the expanded block services provide mission-critical storage with mid-range economics. These new file and block offerings leverage the flexible Alletra Storage MP architecture allowing customers to store, manage, and protect data from a unified platform across the hybrid cloud.
HPE Alletra Storage MP
To address the ever-changing array of workload types and protocols, HPE is introducing a new modular HPE Alletra Storage MP solution that can be configured for file or block stores.
The Alletra Storage MP supports a disaggregated infrastructure with multiple protocols on the same hardware and can scale independently for performance and capacity. The new platform provides customers the flexibility to deploy, manage, and orchestrate data and storage services regardless of the workload or storage protocol.
Leveraging the flexible architecture from the new Alletra Storage MP platform, the new file and block storage offerings are available through HPE GreenLake, allowing customers to orchestrate and manage file and block data services from one unified platform.
HPE GreenLake for File Storage
HPE GreenLake for File Storage delivers a scale-out service to accelerate the processing of data-intensive workloads. The new file storage service combines the HPE GreenLake cloud experience and VAST Data software to establish a resilient file service designed for exabyte scale. VAST delivers fast file services that had been missing from the HPE architecture. HPE GreenLake for File Storage uses the Alletra MP nodes, along with Aruba switching, with up to 14 total nodes (mix of compute and storage) per cluster.
HPE GreenLake for File Storage takes advantage of VAST Data disaggregated and shared everything storage architecture (DASE) combined with their Universal Storage, delivering the speed of all-flash with the economics of hard drive-based storage systems.
It can be challenging to manage enormous amounts of data, so VAST created a built-in metadata index, VAST Catalog, that makes searching and locating data easy in a fraction of the time of traditional methods. This technology lets users and applications treat filesystems like a database, enabling next-gen AI and ML applications to use it as a self-referential feature store.
HPE GreenLake for File Storage offers simple file data management with automatic discovery, onboarding, and configuration of new devices for easy file share creation. Management is through a centralized console so customers can manage, monitor and protect their global storage environments; the non-disruptive upgrades mean maintenance is easy.
HPE GreenLake for Block Storage
HPE GreenLake for Block Storage is expanding to offer the availability, performance, and scalability of mission-critical storage with mid-rang economics. HPE GreenLake for Block Storage is an industry first for disaggregated, scale-out block storage with a 100 percent data availability guarantee.
Management for HPE GreenLake for Block Storage is through the same console used for file storage freeing up IT to focus on other administrative tasks. The unified console provides seamless, integrated backup and disaster recovery across the hybrid cloud.
HPE GreenLake Protection Services
HPE GreenLake for Disaster Recovery delivers fast, flexible recovery from any disruption using a simple unified, automated, and orchestrated experience across multiple VMs. It reduces data loss and downtime through continuous data protection in HPE’s global, scalable SaaS platform with flexible billing.
HPE GreenLake for Backup and Recovery protects on-premises and cloud workloads with unified management and a single data catalog across price and public cloud workloads. It also offers policy-based orchestration, storage efficiency, and consumption-based billing delivered through a 100 percent SaaS solution.
Availability
HPE GreenLake for File Storage and HPE GreenLake for Block Storage can be ordered today. HPE GreenLake for Disaster Recovery is available in June 2023, and HPE GreenLake for Backup and Recovery is generally available today.
