HPE ProLiant DL320 Gen11

The HPE ProLiant DL320 Gen11 is a 1U, single-CPU server designed for use in diverse rack environments. It is designed to modernize and power next-generation workloads while retaining an industry-standard design with flexible scale for advanced graphics and storage. This server is ideal for virtual desktop (VDI) workloads, video streaming, and analytics. Still, thanks to the single-CPU design, it carries an affordable price point for small offices, retail, and other edge locations.

HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen11

The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen11 is a density-optimized server ideal for IT infrastructure and hyperconverged workloads. It is a dual-socket, 1U form factor server that can be used for VMs, containers, or bare metal for various business workloads.

In addition to the extra CPU compared to the DL320 Gen11, the DL360 Gen11 picks up some additional flexibility in storage in I/O configuration. In addition to the hard drive and standard 2.5″ front bay options, the DL360 Gen11 gets a few EDSFF backplanes, notably a 20-bay E3.S option and a 10-bay E3.S 2T option. This system also has more expansion via PCIe and a second OCP slot and supports a much larger memory footprint.

HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen11

The HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen11 server is a dual-socket, 2U form factor server with advanced scalability for storage and accelerators. This server is ideal for demanding workloads that require advanced DPUs and GPUs. The expandability allows for a wide range of diverse workloads, including virtualization and private cloud, as well as data management.

Again, HPE gets creative with storage configurations, supporting 36 E3.S SSDs in the front bays or 18 E3.S 2T drives. Of course, HPE maintains support for hard drives and 2.5″ NVMe configurations. The DL380 Gen11 can also take up to 8 drives in a midplane and supports 4LFF or 6SFF bays in the rear of the system. If you don’t need the drives in the back, there’s plenty of room for PCIe expansion, including support for up to 8 GPUs.

HPE ProLiant ML350 Gen11

Lastly, the HPE ProLiant ML350 Gen11 is a dual-processor server that comes in a business-optimized tower that can also be racked and takes up 4U. It is built for business at the edge, like a branch office, factory, or any other remote facility.

Servers like the ML350 tend to get a mix of business apps, file sharing, virtualization, and other workloads, meaning they must be flexible by design. While servers in this class often get relegated to mid-tier specs to save on budget, HPE offers quite a few power options here, like 12 E3.S NVMe SSD support, up to 10 PCIe slots, and up to four double-width GPU support. While customers may opt for a more midrange model, the ML350 Gen11 can still jam if needed.

More HPE ProLiant Gen11 to Come

HPE has also indicated more ProLiant Gen11 systems are on the way in the “near future.”

  • HPE Synergy 480 Gen11 – for the software-defined data center, featuring enhanced Private Cloud for Enterprise.
  • HPE ProLiant DL560 Gen11 – to power big data workloads with quad-socket performance and in-memory data acceleration.
  • HPE ProLiant DL110 Gen11 – designed with high-density optimized compute for Telco 5G Services and vRAN
  • HPE ProLiant ML110 Gen11 – engineered for small businesses and optimized for affordability.
  • New HPE ProLiant Gen11 – server with expanded GPU support for enterprise workloads.

Market Impact

HPE historically has done a great job with their ProLiant servers, and the engineering you see here carries over to other parts of the portfolio, like the HPE Alletra 4000 storage servers that were also announced today.

We’re most enthusiastic to see how HPE embraces all of those E3.S Gen5 NVMe SSDs in these platforms, especially the tower system, a category that tends not to get the same specifications love the rack systems get.

There’s also a new out-of-band controller with iLO 6, which should continue to make HPE’s server manageability one of the best in the industry.
