Organizations are increasingly on a path to evolve their edge-to-hybrid cloud IT estate in support of new business models and to unlock the agility, operational efficiency, and innovation potential presented by digital transformation. Between a company’s vision and realization of its digital transformation, numerous obstacles stand in the way. New human, technological, and data challenges; managing of massive data generated from various devices (from edge to hybrid cloud); and the creation of a hybrid environment that includes both traditional and cloud-native IT. On top of all that, organizations need to deliver services faster, simplify their IT operations, and create a highly secure and efficient environment that supports all types of workloads.

Digital transformation is driving new requirements for workload-optimized compute delivered with an as-a-service experience. And to enable companies to meet these digital transformation goals, HPE has built a compute portfolio that can stretch from edge to exascale and is optimized for all businesses; public, private, large, or small.

HPE ProLiant Gen10 Plus enhancements

In addition to the Intel 3rd Gen Xeon processor and memory performance boost, the new HPE ProLiant DL360, and DL380 Gen10 Plus servers will feature several new enhancements, such as:

  • The ability to pack double the amount of new high-speed memory into a system
  • New storage controller features such as Intel’s VROC, which is an enterprise, hybrid RAID solution, as well as an expanded choice of tri-mode storage controllers and hardware RAID for enhanced performance.
  • New storage density enhancements, such as the ability to pack nearly 70% more NVMe SSD drives into a single HPE ProLiant DL380 chassis.

Additionally, another significant enhancement is the migration of Intel’s SGX, or Software Guard Extensions, down to this new 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor, meaning that customers with certain workloads that require additional security for data management applications will now be able to leverage that technology in the HPE ProLiant DL360 and DL380 Gen10 Plus servers.

A New HPE ProLiant DL110 Gen10 Plus server

HPE is also introducing a brand-new HPE ProLiant server line targeted for the telco market, the HPE ProLiant DL110 Gen10 plus server. This server offers a 1U, 1P optimized architecture for telco customers as they shift to RAN virtualization at the edge while rolling out 5G capabilities.

This new server is a vRAN-optimized, carrier-grade, NEBS-compliant, and short-depth server. It is designed specifically for edge computing, featuring:

  • Open, standards-based architecture, supporting multi-vendor software-based RAN solutions
  • Powerful compute capabilities, backed by 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors
  • Carrier-grade ruggedized NEBS Level 3-compliant platform designed for the far edge
  • I/O intensive features supporting transport adjacencies such as fronthaul gateways and cell site routers
  • Accelerator options for driving the performance-sensitive, packet-processing vRAN workloads

All-New Design HPE Synergy 480 Gen10 Plus

HPE Synergy is a composable, software-defined infrastructure for hybrid cloud environments. Today, HPE is also introducing HPE Synergy 480 Gen10 Plus, with an all-new design around Intel 3rd Generation Xeon Scalable Processor. HPE states this server will provide up to a 40% increase in performance over earlier generations, achieved with improvements to the product line design around the processor, memory, storage, and boot options. The HPE Synergy 480 Gen10 Plus compute module delivers performance, efficiency, and flexibility of a 2-socket workhorse to support the most demanding workloads with:

  • More cores for a new level of workload performance and expanding ESXi VMs
  • Expanded DIMM count to 16 per socket, with 8 channels @ 3200 MT/S increased speed
  • Intel Optane 200 memory expanded capacity and persistence
  • Storage designed for flexibility and upgradability to meet changing requirements
  • Run OS from optional 2x m.2 boot device or anywhere with stateless server option

HPE Edgeline Converged Edge Systems Enhancements

These systems now also leverage the power of the new 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. The HPE Edgeline EL8000 and EL8000T Converged Edge systems provide support for large inference, training, and visualization accelerators, and fast local SSD storage. HPE Edgeline Converged Systems are designed to deliver unprecedented levels of compute, storage, and networking performance at the edge. They are ruggedized systems purposely engineered for the extreme edge.

The Apollo 2000 Gen 10 Plus & Apollo 6500 Gen 10 Plus systems

HPE 3rd Gen intel Xeon scalable apollo

HPE is introducing the HPE Apollo 2000 Gen10 Plus and HPE Apollo 6500 Gen10 Plus systems with the 3rd Gen of AMD EPYC processor to deliver even more performance, efficiency, and targeted capabilities for HPC and AI workloads. HPE Apollo systems are High-performance computing (HPC) and AI systems, ideal for HPC workloads like modeling and simulations and/or deep learning and AI modeling/ training. The systems are also optimized for artificial intelligence capabilities to improve training and increase accuracy in results.

The Apollo 2000 Gen10 Plus system will additionally support the 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor. This system is a density optimized, multi-node system for mainstream HPC and AI applications ideal for small to mid-size HPC clusters in traditional enterprise data centers. It would be possible to fit up to 80 of these servers in a standard 42U rack. It is well suited for HPC workloads and can also work well in enterprise applications where data centers need higher density than a standard 1U server. Advantages of the 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor include Intel Advanced Vector Extensions 512 (Intel AVX-512) for efficient performance, Intel Speed Select Technology for optimal workload support and flexibility, and built-in AI Acceleration and security.

The enhanced HPE Apollo systems are also offered as part of the new HPE GreenLake Cloud Services for HPC which are fully managed services, which allow any enterprise to benefit from the power of an agile, elastic, pay-per-use cloud experience to tackle their most demanding compute and data-intensive workloads and speed time-to-insight through a flexible as-a-service platform that can run on-premises or in a colocation facility.
