Data keeps growing. Along with it the need for increased performance, scalability, and storage efficiency. One method companies can adopt to address all of the above is to leverage flash memory to speed performance was well as its increasing ability to reach to new capacities and densities. Huawei, who has been researching heavily into flash technology over the past 11 years, takes the ideas of flash and adds an extra step with flash-oriented storage OS, chips, and a self-developed SSD with optimizations for the OceanStor Dorado V3. According to Huawei, this optimization results in over 4 million IOPS and 500us of latency.

OceanStor Dorado V3 uses Huawei’s patented flash reliability assurance technology to triple the life of flash, thus addressing the high-reliability requirements of enterprise storage. For high-availability of services, Huawei is providing a gateway-free HyperMetro active-active solution. On top of the performance and reliability, Huawei OceanStor Dorado V3 will come with inline deduplication that can increase storage space usage by 5x and lower TCO by more than 70%.

Huawei states that they are currently the only vendor providing self-developed storage OS, controllers, and SSD disks and is capable of performing end-to-end in-depth optimization on flash. Huawei is also receiving support for its OceanStor Dorado V3 from its long standing partners in Intel, Oracle, and Brocade from their respective viewpoint of core capabilities in chips, databases, and networks.
