IBM and Intel plan to deploy Gaudi 3 AI accelerators as a service on IBM Cloud.

IBM and Intel have announced plans to deploy Intel Gaudi 3 AI accelerators as a service on IBM Cloud. This new offering is expected to be available in early 2025. The IBM-Intel partnership will help enterprises scale their AI initiatives more cost-effectively while driving innovation with a strong foundation in security and resiliency. The collaboration will also extend support for Gaudi 3 within IBM’s watsonx AI and data platform, making IBM Cloud the first cloud service provider to adopt Gaudi 3, with availability planned for both hybrid and on-premise environments.

Justin Hotard, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Intel Data Center and AI, emphasized the importance of an open and collaborative ecosystem in realizing AI’s full potential. By integrating Gaudi 3 AI Accelerators and Xeon CPUs with IBM Cloud, the collaboration aims to meet the growing demand for affordable, secure, and innovative AI computing solutions, offering customers more choice and accessible options.

The partnership between IBM and Intel addresses critical enterprise concerns such as the availability, performance, cost, energy efficiency, and security of AI workloads. Integrating Gaudi 3 with 5th Gen Xeon processors will support enterprise AI workloads across cloud and data center environments, providing businesses with enhanced visibility and control over their software stack. This integration simplifies workload and application management, helping enterprises scale AI workloads while prioritizing performance, security, and resiliency.

For generative AI inferencing workloads, IBM plans to enable support for Gaudi 3 within the watsonx AI and data platform. This will provide watsonx clients with additional AI infrastructure resources, allowing them to scale their AI workloads more efficiently across hybrid cloud environments and optimize model inferencing regarding price and performance.

Alan Peacock, General Manager of IBM Cloud, highlighted IBM’s commitment to driving AI and hybrid cloud innovation by offering solutions tailored to their clients’ specific needs. Leveraging Intel’s Gaudi 3 accelerators on IBM Cloud is critical in optimizing cost performance and unlocking new AI business opportunities. This collaboration is designed to provide enterprise clients with a flexible AI solution that enables cost-effective testing, innovation, and deployment of AI inferencing solutions.

IBM and Intel continue to work together to ensure that customers across various industries, including heavily regulated sectors, can leverage IBM Cloud’s security and compliance capabilities. This collaboration will make Gaudi 3 services more accessible to enterprises, enhancing scalability and flexibility. The partnership can potentially deliver significant cost savings and operational efficiency by allowing clients to adjust computing resources as needed. Furthermore, integrating Gaudi 3 into IBM Cloud Virtual Servers for VPC is expected to enable x86-based enterprises to run applications faster and more securely, enhancing overall user experiences.
