IBM Storage DS8000, enterprise-class storage engineered for IBM Z mainframe architectures, will GA on October 25.
IBM announced the general availability of IBM Storage DS8000, designed for enterprise-class storage and tailored explicitly for IBM Z mainframe architectures. The DS8000 series storage is engineered to exploit all IBM Z capabilities. It offers critical workload access, consistent data performance, and a modular architecture. Organizations can use the new features to fuel business growth and monetization.
Key Features of IBM Storage DS8000
IBM’s DS8000 series offers an availability rate of up to five nines (99.999999%), ensuring uninterrupted business operations. It includes near real-time, autonomous failover capabilities for metro distances when paired with IBM Z’s Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex (GDPS). For longer distances, the solution enables organizations with regional data centers to restore complete operations in less than an hour with GDPS and DS8000.
The new IBM storage also incorporates robust cybersecurity measures. Certified under FIPS 140-3, it provides a resilient storage solution that protects critical system and AI model data. The platform includes immutable Safeguarded Copies and integrates with zCyberVault for application-consistent recovery points, ensuring protection against data loss and rapid recovery from verified points.
High-Performance Features
The IBM DS8000 series improves application responsiveness with up to 20% reduction in latency, achieved using ZHyperlink with PCIe Gen4 in high-volume environments like airline and credit card transactions. Additionally, the system delivers 2.5 times the throughput in write-only testing compared to previous generations and up to 73% more IOPS for high-volume transactions, thanks to the new High-Performance Flash Enclosure (HPFE) flash enclosure.
Improved Data Center Efficiency
IBM DS8000 improves data center efficiency by offering double the storage capacity in the same physical space when utilizing the IBM FlashCore Module 4. This is coupled with inline compression and data encryption technologies, allowing bus-speed performance for protecting critical data.
Cyber Resilient, Mission-Critical Storage
The IBM DS8000 series is built to support next-generation data-intensive workloads and can manage AI workloads while integrating with analytics tools to deliver predictive insights. This system provides enterprises with scalable storage to meet evolving data demands, supporting dynamic workloads and complex projects as they grow.
Mainframe Infrastructure Optimization
Paired with IBM Z, the DS8000 optimizes mainframe infrastructure performance, letting enterprises adopt a more agile and secure digital architecture. IBM’s integrated stack, encompassing IBM Z and DS8000, provides a modern, secured infrastructure capable of handling mission-critical workloads.
Support and Availability
IBM Storage DS8000 is backed by IBM Storage Expert Care, which provides customers with robust support to minimize downtime and data loss and maintain high availability. It will be generally available starting October 25.
