Icy Dock has unveiled the MB994SP-4SB-1, a full metal quad bay 2.5" SATA 6Gbps backplane for use in a single 5.25" device bay. The previous model (MB082SP) included SAS, whereas its successor uses a SATA-only 6Gbps interface and adds a fan power switch to control as needed.
In addition to this power switch, the dual 40mm cooling fans allow for efficiency and flexibility: the fans turn off when using SSDs and then back on again when using mechanical SATA hard drives. Additionally, installation is simpler with its single 4 pin power connector, which reduces the amount of required cables. The MB994SP uses Icy Dock’s EZ Slide Mini Trays, accommodating both 9.5mm and 12.5mm drives. This makes drive interchangeability and maintenance hassle free.
The MB994SP’s design is made entirely of metal, which ensures protection and reliability for customers’ drives. In addition, its small form factor makes it perfect for gaming PCs, RAID systems as well as in small form factor cases where 5.25" bays are limited and large drive capacity or SSDs are needed.
