Intel has announced the Intel Xeon processor E7 v2 family to aid companies in a variety of industries including retail, healthcare, banking, and transportation, to turn data into actionable insights. The new Intel family is also designed for mission critical computing, featuring the industry’s largest memory support to enable large data sets to be analyzed rapidly and deliver real-time insights based on vast amount of diverse data.

With the Intel Xeon processor E7 v2 family, there exists new capabilities to process and analyze large, diverse amounts of data, which unlocks information that was otherwise inaccessible. With its advanced performance, memory capacity, and reliability, the Intel Xeon processor E7 v2 family gives IT organizations the ability to deliver real-time analysis of large data sets as well as increased storage performance.

Big data and the Internet of Things (IoT) offer many organizations opportunities to grow as they create revenue-generating services from the information they are able to derive. Additionally, the big data technology and services market is anticipated to grow 27 percent annually through 2017 and reach $32.4 billion dollars. One of the more important drivers of this growth is the immense amount of data coming from connected devices that make up the IoT, which is expected to reach over 30 billion devices by 2020. Investing in the highest performing technologies and analysis solutions also has the ability to deliver significant cost savings. Intel’s IT organization expects to achieve cost savings and increased bottom-line revenue of nearly half a billion dollars by 2016 with the use of analytics solutions.

With the E7 v2 family’s triple amount of memory capacity compared to previous generations, it allows for much faster and thorough data analysis. In-memory analytics places and analyzes an entire data set in the system memory as opposed to using traditional disk drives.

For example, EBay handles massive data sets of more than 50 petabytes for over 100 million users and based on initial testing of the new Intel Xeon processor E7 v2 and SAP’s HANA in-memory analytics software, eBay has seen greater storage performance and a greater understanding of larger data sets that will help drive additional revenue opportunities for its customers.

Intel’s new processor family achieves twice the average performance of the previous generation and is built for up to 32-socket servers as well as with configurations supporting up to 15 processing cores and up to 1.5 TB of memory per socket. With these enhancements, it will help businesses that run mission critical applications to be more efficient, including business support systems (BSS), customer relationship management (CRM), and ERP to operate. Additionally, it will accomplish this at lower costs and with faster response times.

The Xeon Processor E7 v2 family is also equipped with Intel Integrated I/O, Intel Data Direct I/O and support for PCIe 3.0 to reduce bottlenecks, which achieves up to four times the I/O bandwidth over the previous generation and provides extra capacity for storage and networking connections.
