LaCie has announced that its professional 5-bay RAID server is now available in a diskless model gibing users all the benefits of the 5big Network 2, but with the flexibility to scale their storage and security as needed.
With the new diskless model, users can migrate from zero to five disks without data loss; thus reducing initial investment while ensuring a long-term solution. Users can also leverage unused drives or purchase new drives based on their needs and it will automatically build the RAID mode accordingly. The 5big Network 2 also offers RAID modes 5 and 6, providing automatic, hardware-level data protection. If a single disk fails, users can replace it without turning it off and without losing any data.
Business owners, administrators, and managers can organize a backup procedure for multiple Linux, PC and Mac workstations, as well as ensure all data is safe and in one place. The 5big Network 2 is also compatible with both Time Machine and Windows 7 Backup and supports up to 70MB/s with its dual LAN ports. For users who travel often, the 5big Network 2 features remote access, which gives them the ability to share files anywhere with an Internet connection. Users can also share files from their iPhone or iPad by installing LaCie’s free iOS app, MyNAS.
