This upgrade takes the protection offered by the Rugged line and adds the new USB-C technology, that is probably most well known for being the only port on the new Apple MacBook (often referred to as the 12 inch MacBook). Part of the appeal of USB-C is that it can be plugged in either way, meaning you won’t have to go through the scenario of reaching behind a computer (or TV) in the dark, find the USB port, and then find you have to flip the device over because no matter which way you start, you are holding it wrong. LaCie’s Rugged USB-C line is Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.0 compatible so it can be used with just about any computer currently available. An added bonus is when a customer requires the entire drive from a creative professional; not only will the drive survive the shipping, there is no need to worry about connectivity when it arrives.
The new LaCie Rugged line comes in multiple capacities up to 4TB. LaCie states that the upgraded line can hit 130MB/s on transfer speeds. The drives are bus powered and don’t need an external power supply. And like the other Rugged lines, the new devices are resistant to drops, crush, rain, and unauthorized access.
Availability and pricing
The new USB-C Rugged line from LaCie come with a 2-year limited warranty and are expected to be available this month. Pricing is as follows:

- 2TB: $179.99
- 4TB: $249.99
