Lenovo has announced several new workstations including the ThinkStation P520 and compact P520c tower. Boasting 4.5GHz and up to 18 cores, the P520 and P520c are part of Lenovo’s new line of mainstream, single-CPU workstations that support the latest Intel Xeon W processors and up to dual NVIDIA Quadro P6000 professional graphics cards. They have been designed to provide the performance, reliability and optimized acceleration needed to excel in demanding workloads.

The ThinkStation P520 provides architects, designers, and engineers with a high clock-speed for running single-threaded CAD apps and multiple cores for multi-threaded compute tasks and professional graphics for tasks such as accelerated CAE analysis, rendering and VR workflows. Its optimized storage gives professionals access to speedy data retrieval of large design models while offering comprehensive expansion options and dual M.2 support directly on the motherboard. For creative professionals, Lenovo indicates that it “pushes the limits” of 3D animation and visual effects.

The ThinkStation P520 and P520c OFFER support for Intel Virtual RAID on CPU (VROC), which allows industry professionals to directly manage their NVMe SSDs on the CPU and not with an inherently complicated RAID hot bus adapter.

Also announced is the Lenovo ThinkPad P52s, the company’s thinnest and lightest quad-core mobile workstation offering to date.  Lenovo has updated both the performance and universal connectivity so that industry professionals will have a reliable machine on the go. The ThinkPad P52s also features raw Intel Core processing and is equipped with the brand-new NVIDIA Quadro P500 graphics for fast, on-screen interactivity with dense datasets, simulations, and 2D image manipulation and painting. In addition, the ThinkPad P52s is optimized for storage support with its PCIe NVMe drive (up to 1TB) and features Lenovo’s PowerBridge technology to promote extended battery life.

Through the use of Processor Affinity, Lenovo Performance Tuner (LPT) 2.0 gives users the ability to run applications on specific cores, which helps significantly improve system workload and optimizes power and resources for both single-threaded or multi-threaded applications. Moreover, Lenovo has responded to their customers’ feedback by now allowing users to import and export their own application profiles. This will allow system administrators to customize and share profiles across employee systems.

These workstations also support Lenovo Workstation Diagnostics. This free desktop application and free smartphone app gives users the tools to gain insight in their system including “easy-to-follow” guidance and troubleshooting when issues occur. If your machine fails to boot up, the phone app allows workstations to communicate directly to a mobile device to provide instant diagnostics and potential solutions.

Availability and pricing

These three new workstations are slated for a release at the end of January with pricing and model information available by region.
