From AI-ready workstations to business-class convertibles, here’s how the new ThinkPads stack up.

Lenovo has rolled out a significant refresh of its ThinkPad lineup to meet the rising demand for AI-capable, high-performance laptops designed for modern, flexible work environments. The updated portfolio includes new entries in the P Series, L Series, and premium X1 Aura Editions, all built to accommodate the varied needs of professionals ranging from engineers to business users and hybrid teams.

ThinkPad P Series: New Mobile Workstations Target AI Workflows

The AMD ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 and P16s Gen 4 are designed for a workforce that is increasingly relying on AI-enabled tasks and performance-intensive workloads. The P14s Gen 6 weighs only about 1.39kg and is just over 16mm thick, making it Lenovo’s most portable mobile workstation to date. Meanwhile, the P16s Gen 4 offers more screen real estate while still staying under four pounds, striking a nice balance between performance and mobility.

Both devices are powered by AMD Ryzen AI PRO 300 Series processors, with the Ryzen AI 9 HX PRO 370 (a 12-core chip that can boost up to 5.1GHz and deliver up to 50 TOPS of AI processing) as the top model. Graphics-wise, these laptops utilize AMD’s RDNA 3.5 integrated architecture. When paired with up to 96GB of DDR5 RAM, these ThinkPads offer enough headroom to run CAD and BIM software without stuttering. For architects, engineers, and students in these fields, this means getting workstation-level output from a machine that still fits in a backpack.

Both models are part of the Copilot+ PC class, Microsoft’s designation for laptops optimized for Windows 11’s AI experiences. They also feature unified memory architecture, which allows up to 75% of system RAM to be allocated to GPU tasks. That’s especially valuable for workflows involving graphics rendering or AI acceleration, ensuring smoother, faster responses.

Moreover, Lenovo has included a host of usability enhancements that carry across the new ThinkPad family. The 5MP RGB+IR webcams, for example, are paired with Dolby Atmos audio and Elevoc noise suppression, making them ideal for remote collaboration. Wi-Fi 7, optional 4G LTE, and dual Thunderbolt 4 ports are also included.

ThinkPad L Series: Flexibility and Configurability for Business

The new ThinkPad L Series offers some design refinements and expanded configuration options that cater to a range of professional use cases. These models include the ThinkPad L13 Gen 6, L13 2-in-1 Gen 6, L14 Gen 6, and L16 Gen 2, all of which have been tailored to support the growing demands of hybrid work, sustainable IT infrastructure, and AI-accelerated productivity.

ThinkPad L13 Gen 6 and L13 2-in-1 Gen 6

Leading the visual and functional overhaul are the L13 models. Both the clamshell and convertible L13 Gen 6 versions now feature a more compact chassis with cleaner design lines, and a screen-to-body ratio of up to 84.7%, delivering a better viewing experience in a smaller footprint. The L13 2-in-1 Gen 6 especially benefits from its convertible form factor and includes an onboard garaged pen for note-taking, sketching, and marking up documents on the go.

Both models feature 13.3-inch 16:10 WUXGA displays, offering up to 400 nits of brightness and options for full sRGB color accuracy. Models equipped with AMD platforms also include Eyesafe-certified panels and optional touch support. The Intel version adds ARAS coating and Pencil Touch for precision input. Moreover, a redesigned communication bar features a 5MP RGB+IR camera, which enhances video calls and enables secure facial recognition. The 2-in-1 model also features a world-facing camera, which is helpful for capturing content or enabling more dynamic collaboration scenarios.

Under the hood, these compact devices support up to 32GB of LPDDR5x memory and 1TB of PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage, offering sufficient performance for business users who need fast multitasking in a lightweight chassis. Weight starts at just 1.2kg (AMD) and 1.3kg (Intel), keeping the devices highly portable.

Connectivity includes dual Thunderbolt 4 ports, USB-A, HDMI 2.1, and optional features like 4G LTE and Smart Card readers.

ThinkPad L14 Gen 6 and L16 Gen 2

For users who require more screen real estate or greater performance headroom, the ThinkPad L14 Gen 6 and L16 Gen 2 should meet their needs. Both models are available with either Intel Core Ultra 200U/200H processors (with Intel vPro support) or AMD Ryzen AI PRO 300 Series mobile processors, offering full platform flexibility across different business environments.

The L14 features a 14-inch 16:10 display, while the L16 offers a larger 16-inch panel, both with options for brightness ranging from 400 to 500 nits and wide color gamut coverage. Select displays are also Eyesafe-certified, helping to reduce eye strain during prolonged use.

Performance configurations scale up to 64GB of DDR5 memory and 2TB of PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage, making them ideal for more intensive workloads such as data analysis, multitasking with enterprise applications, or handling large files. These models also support Copilot+ capabilities on Windows 11 through their AMD AI-enabled configurations, offering up to 50 TOPS of NPU performance for real-time local AI tasks, such as voice recognition, video enhancements, and smart productivity tools. Both new L-Series models come with Thunderbolt 4, multiple USB-A ports, HDMI 2.1, and RJ45 Ethernet, as well as optional support for Smart Card and SIM.

X1 Series: Premium Options

At the high end of the portfolio are the updated ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition and X1 2-in-1 Gen 10 Aura Edition. These are now available with Intel’s Core Ultra 200U and 200H processors, adding to earlier versions built on the 200V series. This upgrade promises enhanced power efficiency and responsiveness, important for business users who prioritize performance and portability.

Both devices feature slim, lightweight builds and high screen-to-body ratios. They also come with advanced software enhancements, including Lenovo View for video collaboration and Dolby Atmos audio, for clear and immersive sound. These additions cater to professionals who depend on high-performing mobile hardware and seamless virtual communication tools.

Shared Features

Across all updated ThinkPad models, Lenovo has added several standard improvements:

  • Enhanced cameras (5MP RGB+IR) and Dolby Atmos audio with noise suppression for improved collaboration.
  • More customer-replaceable components, such as batteries and keyboards, help extend a device’s lifespan.
  • Sustainability-focused design changes include using plastic-free packaging and incorporating recycled materials.
  • Tools like Lenovo Commercial Vantage for device customization and Lenovo View for AI-enhanced video calls.

Security features also appear similar across all new models. This includes a Touch Fingerprint Reader and a Discrete TPM 2.0 security chip for hardware-based encryption and secure boot. An IR camera is also present across devices, enabling facial recognition via Windows Hello. At the same time, a physical webcam privacy shutter provides added peace of mind for users concerned about visual privacy.

The integration of ThinkShield means these new laptops will feature tools like secure BIOS-level controls and remote wipe capabilities. Nano lock slots provide physical device security, making them suitable for deployment in shared or public environments.
