LSI has announced the AXE2502 Axxia communication processor, designed to accelerate networking in enterprise and cloud datacenters by offloading complex networking tasks from servers and networking equipment.
The AXE2502 is built to deliver:
- Better performance while reducing power consumption
- Deterministic, predictable network performance for datacenters by offloading complex networking tasks
- Full offload architecture to deal with increasing control traffic in both traditional and software-defined networks
- Higher-performing cloud datacenters by efficiently managing traffic in highly virtualized environments
- Software compatibility with the entire Axxia family of communication processors, allowing software reuse and reducing development costs
The AXE2502 processor takes advantage of hardware accelerators’ efficiency and performance benefits as well as the programmable flexibility of PowerPC processors to accelerate complex tasks such as control plane processing, statistics, security and deep packet inspection.
Availability
The AXE2502 is available in two configurations and supports different external interfaces. It is slated for release in Q3 2012 to networking OEMs.
