LSI Corporation (NYSE: LSI) has announced its latest models of high-performance, low-power preamplifier integrated circuits; the TrueStore® PA5100 and PA5200, specifically made for the notebook, desktop and enterprise HDD markets. The preamplifiers deliver speeds of up to 5.0Gb/s, which is a significant jump in performance compared to the previous generations; they also consume considerably less power than their predecessors.
The PA5200 write driver delivers more than a 15 percent reduction in preamp write power with its conventional dual-power design. The PA5100 write driver uses a single power supply with a preamp power reduction of more than 35 percent for next-generation HDDs. The PA5100 and PA5200 offer the flexibility to deploy a common IC capable of serving all major HDD markets. LSI asserts that any hard drive manufacturer who integrates the new PA5100/PA5200 preamps into their drive assemblies will benefit from lower development costs, reduced inventories and “an accelerated time-to-market with a single preamp capable of addressing a wide range of application requirements.”
