The hits keep on coming at CES as Marvell announces this morning that its unveiling the 88SE9230 6Gb/s SATA controller. The controller features four ports for connecting either HDD or SSD devices and two PCIe 2.0 lanes to accommodate the thoughput of SSDs. It also utilizes Marvell’s HyperDuo embedded processor which gives the unit the ability to identify and dynamically place actively-used files and directories on up to three available SSDs, while using available HDDs to store all files.
The 88SE92390 is also capable of supporting concurrent RAID 0/1 configurations so it’s possible to run two HDDs and two SSDs in a fast, redundant array. The controller is aimed at the mainstream consumer technology market and has garnered support from HDD manufacturers Western Digital, Seagate and Toshiba, motherboard manufacturers ASRock, ASUSTek, GIGBYTE and MSI, and SDD manufacturers OCZ and Micron.
