Micron Technology has introduced new RealSSD solid state drive (SSD) products based on the latest 25nm NAND flash memory technology. The new C400 series drives are available in 1.8- and 2.5-inch form factors with storage capacities ranging from 128GB to 512GB. The C400V value line will include a 64MB capacity.

Micron says the C400 drives have 17 percent faster read speeds than their C300 predecessors (up to 415MB/s). Write speeds vary by drive capacity (64GB – 95MB/s, 128GB – 175 MB/s, 256GB and 512GB – 260MB/s); the 512GB drive is up to 20 percent faster than the fastest C300 at 260MB/s. All of the new RealSSD drives feature SATA 6.0Gbp/s interfaces.
The SSDs are relatively power-friendly too, the 64GB C400V sips 2.3W while active. The C400 drives post 3W, 3.5W and 4.9W respectively.
The C400 series is sampling now; mass production is expected to begin in February. Crucial, a division of Micron, will be selling the drives as the Crucial m4 SSD series; they are expected to be available at crucial.com in Q1 2011.
