Microsoft and Broadcom are broadening their collaboration to support VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) subscriptions on Azure VMware Solution. This expansion allows customers to utilize their VMware Cloud Foundation licenses on Azure VMware Solution and their data centers, providing flexibility to adapt to evolving business needs.

Since 2019, Microsoft has sold and operated Azure VMware Solution. Customers can still purchase the solution with VMware licenses included, which is available for those preferring a comprehensive package from Microsoft.

Azure VMware Solution offers a fully managed VMware environment operated and supported by Microsoft. This service enables seamless migration of VMware workloads to Azure with minimal to no refactoring. Customers can leverage their existing skills while acquiring new Azure competencies.

Optimized Cloud Operating Model

Available in 33 global regions, Azure VMware Solution allows organizations to utilize Azure’s scalable and high-performance cloud infrastructure. It supports critical business capabilities such as backup, high availability, threat protection, and performance monitoring. Additionally, workloads on Azure VMware Solution can integrate with Azure’s extensive cloud services to enhance innovation, gain insights through advanced AI, and modernize applications.

VMware Cloud Foundation provides a flexible and integrated private cloud platform across various endpoints. Deploying VCF on Azure offers an optimized cloud operating model, combining public cloud scalability with private cloud security and performance. This enables IT infrastructure modernization, enhanced productivity through a self-service private cloud experience, and improved cyber resiliency and security.

Flexibility For Evolving Business Needs

Improved license portability for VMware Cloud Foundation customers will allow complete mobility between on-premises environments and Azure VMware Solution. Customers with existing VCF subscriptions can transfer the remaining value to Azure VMware Solution, retaining their subscription rights during the transition. This flexibility supports evolving business needs and requirements.

The VMware Rapid Migration Plan further supports organizations migrating to Azure VMware Solution by offering:

  • Price protection through Reserved Instances, locking in pricing for one, three, or five years.
  • Savings for Windows and SQL Server workloads, with Azure Hybrid Benefit discounts and free Extended Security Updates for older versions.
  • Migration support with Azure Migrate and Modernize, providing resources, expert assistance, and funding from Microsoft and partners.
  • Additional Azure credits for new Reserved Instances, applicable to Azure VMware Solution or other Azure services.

Porting VMware Cloud Foundation licenses to Azure VMware Solution will be available later this year.
