Monster Digital has announced their first foray into the SSD space with the Le Mans SSD family. The Le Mans SSDs will feature SandForce SF-2200 processors, SATA 6 Gb/s interface and Toshiba synchronous MLC NAND to deliver read speeds of 550 MB/s and writes of 515 MB/s writes. The drives are squarely targeted at enthusiasts, which is most evident in their unique 80GB capacity Le Mans, which is actually a hugely over provisioned 128GB SSD.

An 80GB Le Mans is over provisioned by 60% which will give enthusiasts a tremendous amount of performance and endurance. The 120GB and 240GB capacity SSDs carry the standard 7% over provisioning and the 400GB capacity is 28% over provisioned. For someone to jump into the SSD space at this point and make a splash, they either need to deliver tremendous performance, endurance or show us something new. Monster Digital certainly shows us a new trick with the Le Mans series and if they perform like other similarly equipped drives, then the Le Mans offering could be quite compelling.
Availability
Monster Digital is in the process of the final stages of drive testing and anticipates shipping in volume by the end of the first quarter of 2012. The Le mans SSDs will be on display at CES in January.
