Today Morro Data introduced two new service offerings that aim to replace the need of having a local NAS, CloudNAS and CloudNAS Business. According to Morro Data, these new service offerings can deliver the benefits of cloud storage with the performance and reliability of local NAS, all in a cost-effective manner. Morro states that the solutions will save users productivity while operating costs by as much as 80%.
Founded by Paul Tien (founder of ReadyNAS, acquired by NETGEAR) and his core team, Morro Data is attempting to revolutionize storage for Small- and Medium-Businesses (SMBs) with simple, fast, affordable, enterprise-class cloud storage and accelerated file distribution. The heart of Morro Data’s services is CacheDrive, a cloud storage gateway, and Morro Storage, built on Amazon S3. Files are stored in the cloud, cached in the gateway, and synced globally.
Aimed at prosumer, SOHO, and SMB markets, the new solutions offer several benefits including the elimination of maintenance, “infinite” capacity, and plug and play setup. Morro also offers enterprise-class storage features with the on-demand file performance of an on-premise NAS system, something that would cost smaller end users a premium to have in their NAS. Morro Data works with common cloud storage options, meaning users can keep the storage solutions they have.
The two solutions announced include:
- Morro Data CloudNAS with Backblaze – Created in partnership with cloud-based storage provider Backblaze’s B2 service, Morro Data CloudNAS with Backblaze gives prosumers and SMBs an incredibly easy plug-n-play solution that allows them to treat their cloud storage as their primary storage solution. Starting at $10 per month users get the business-class storage features and incredible cost-effectiveness of Blackblaze B2, delivered with local NAS performance and efficiency. Similar to desktop NAS revolutionizing SMB and prosumer storage ten years ago, we see CloudNAS as the new beset way to keep data safe in the cloud.
- Morro Data CloudNAS Business – This service is designed to augment businesses with major cloud storage accounts with Amazon S3 and Backblaze B2, although Morro Data is adding more large-scale cloud service providers in the coming months. Starting at $89 per month, Morro Data will deliver enterprise-class storage services (encryption, compression, instant data recovery, retention policies, etc.) and a global file system for businesses with multiple sites around the world, but delivering local performance and file availability. Morro Data CloudNAS Business delivers cloud storage advantages with centralized file management, a single namespace, and centralized device management spanning multiple locations, all available with, what the company refers to as, the industry’s easiest setup and management.
