Joining the ranks of dubious SSD news today, Mushkin has announced their Callisto deluxe SSD family. If that sounds familiar, there’s a reason. Just 4 weeks ago, Mushkin released the Callisto SSD. That drive is now discontinued, with the new deluxe version taking its place.
What’s new you ask? Mushkin claims 50,000 IOPS is new. It sounds like they may be marketing a firmware update as an entirely new drive, or the first Castillo was a mess and they had to replace it. Either way, we’re not buying the hype even though it is a SF-1200 powered drive.
Other than the IOPS claim, nothing else seems to have changed. It’s the same 285/Mb/s read and 275Mb/s write we expect form SF-1200 drives and it comes in 60GB, 120GB and 240GB flavors. Mushkin also includes a 3-year warranty.
Availability
The drives appear to be available now from the Mushkin site for $220 (60GB), $370 (120GB) and $666 (240GB), which incidentally were the same prices as the non-deluxe Callisto.
