Launched back in 2014, NetApp StorageGRID Webscale software was aimed at helping businesses leverage the hybrid cloud, allowing them to manage massive data-sets (enabling IT to store up to 100 billion objects in a single elastic container), reduce costs, and secure data management. The software addressed a range of use cases, managing data placement according to cost, compliance, availability, and performance requirements, delivering the storage needed with speed, security, and scalability. StorageGRID Webscale runs on a virtualized server infrastructure with either NetApp E-series data storage systems or with third-party storage arrays. And is purpose-built for large archives, media repositories, and web data stores.
The company has made a handful of tweaks and improvements over the years since its release. Today, NetApp announced support for all flash. With the SGF6024 all flash appliance users can see high-performance, even at enough scale (NetApp claims 3X performance for small object versus SG6060). StorageGRID now offers tiering to Azure Blob Storage. With this tiering, StorageGRID supports up to 10 Cloud Storage Pools per grid. StorageGRID also has a cost-effective way to expand with the SG6060 expansion nodes that offer 400PB in a single namespace, high-density, high-capacity large object workloads, and ample compute making the SG6060 a good option for on-prem FabricPool.
