NetApp ASA A-Series is designed to optimize block storage, built-in AIOPs, and integration with VMware.
NetApp has unveiled its latest all-flash storage system, the NetApp ASA A-Series, designed to optimize block storage and enable organizations to modernize their storage infrastructure. The ASA A-Series supports customers managing advanced block storage workloads and promises three key advantages: simplicity, power, and affordability.
The ASA A-Series allows users to deploy, manage, and upgrade easily. With built-in AIOps and deep integration with VMware, customers can deploy the system in minutes and provision resources in seconds, reducing complexity in day-to-day operations.
Regarding performance, the ASA A-Series offers capabilities such as delivering millions of IOPS and consistent sub-millisecond latency. It includes advanced features like scale-out clustering, seamless workload balancing, a “six 9s” availability guarantee, a Ransomware Recovery Guarantee, and application-aware backup. These features allow IT teams to consolidate and accelerate workloads such as VMware and databases with increased reliability and performance.
On the affordability front, NetApp promises substantial cost savings with the ASA A-Series, which offers a 25-50% lower upfront price than previous solutions. Its design minimizes power consumption and operational overhead, reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO) over time while maximizing value. This enables organizations to modernize to all-flash storage within budget constraints while achieving storage efficiency.
To further enhance the management of the new system, NetApp has updated its Data Infrastructure Insights service, formerly known as Cloud Insights. These updates provide customers with improved visibility, optimization, and reliability, helping them better manage performance and savings.
Sandeep Singh, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Enterprise Storage at NetApp, emphasized the value of the new ASA systems, stating, “Our customers need storage systems that deliver real value through power, affordability, and simplicity. With the NetApp ASA A-Series, they can modernize their operations and meet the demands of more powerful block storage workloads without sacrificing simplicity or performance.”
Expanding Investment in Intelligent Data Infrastructure
In addition to the ASA A-Series, NetApp has announced several enhancements to its data infrastructure portfolio:
- New FAS Systems: Adding the FAS 70 midrange and FAS 90 high-end systems to NetApp’s hybrid flash storage array portfolio provides cost-effective yet high-performance backup storage. These systems offer advanced cyber vault protection against ransomware attacks through automated tiering of cold data.
- Cloud Volumes ONTAP Enhancements: Strengthened the ONTAP Autonomous Ransomware Protection (ARP) and WORM features and made them available at no cost to Cloud Volumes ONTAP (CVO) customers.
- Native Cloud Services Updates: New features for Google Cloud NetApp Volumes and Azure NetApp Files to enhance scalability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Google Cloud customers can now provision large volumes starting at 15TiB, with dynamic scaling up to 1PiB. At the same time, Azure users benefit from cost savings through cool access auto-tiering and improved data availability via cross-zone replication.
- BlueXP Upgrades: NetApp’s BlueXP management platform now features streamlined ONTAP upgrade capabilities, simplifying the upgrade process for IT teams.
NetApp is now accepting orders for the ASA A-Series, with shipments expected to begin by the end of October 2024.
