GridIron Systems has announced that its TurboCharger SAN acceleration appliance has been certified as interoperable with NetApp unified storage solutions. Customers running high-performance databases for applications, like Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) and Decision Support Systems (DSS), now have a cost-effective option for accelerating application performance and supporting more concurrent users and applications. Installing the TurboCharger accelerator in front of NetApp enterprise storage arrays delivers instant performance gains, minimizes disruption to operations, and reduces complexity.
The SAN-attached GridIron TurboCharger appliance is installed on the storage network between servers and storage without any disruption, providing a high-performance access layer to the storage infrastructure. It drastically boosts the performance of applications and databases without changing existing servers, storage, applications or processes. Additionally, the TurboCharger uses Set-Ranking analytics to continuously profile the data access behavior of applications and identifies performance-impacting data at any given time. It moves this important data, in real time, to high-performance DRAM and Flash on the appliance to deliver the data to applications to upwards of 100X faster using proprietary hardware.
In the “Increase Application Performance by Using NetApp Storage Controllers and GridIron TurboCharger Data Accelerator Appliance,” technical report, NetApp found that installing TurboCharger was very straightforward and preserved the high-availability configuration of the environment and verified that installing TurboCharger allowed twice as many users to access the OLTP database concurrently while maintaining database response times. In DSS testing, TurboCharger lowered query completion time by 50% and the storage system read load was reduced by 99%; this enabled the storage controller to handle additional load from applications/users.
NetApp offers a variety of high performance enterprise storage systems that use Flash to reduce response times. By adding TurboCharger in front of storage controllers, it offloads Input/Output operations, extending the scale-up range of the system. The NetApp-GridIron collaboration allows for a very affordable solution alternative for database users who require high performance to process queries quicker and support concurrent users. This combination aids customers in analyzing extremely large, data-intensive workloads with boundless and secure storage for improved decision-making and business advantage.
