NetApp Unveils Advanced Generative AI Solution With NVIDIA

by Harold Fritts

NetApp used its user conference, INSIGHT, to unveil an advanced generative AI data vision and end-to-end integrated solution combined with NVIDIA AI software.

At NetApp INSIGHT, NetApp introduced an advanced generative AI data vision and an end-to-end integrated solution, combining NVIDIA AI software and accelerated computing with NetApp’s intelligent data infrastructure. This integration is designed to support enterprise retrieval augmented generation (RAG), powering the future of agentic AI applications across industries.

This solution improves NetApp’s ONTAP unified storage operating system by leveraging a new global metadata namespace, enabling enterprises to unify and utilize their data estates. With this technology, organizations can unlock exabytes of data stored across cloud and on-premises infrastructure, boosting RAG’s capabilities and accelerating the development of next-generation AI applications.

The offering integrates NetApp’s ONTAP and BlueXP with NVIDIA’s NeMo Retriever and NIM microservices, which are part of the NVIDIA AI Enterprise platform. This collaboration aims to provide businesses with intelligent data solutions for ongoing success.

Harv Bhela, Chief Product Officer at NetApp, emphasized the importance of data management in AI applications, stating, “Combining the NetApp data management engine and NVIDIA AI software empowers AI applications to securely access and leverage vast amounts of data, paving the way for intelligent, agentic AI that tackles complex business challenges and fuels innovation.” Manuvir Das, Vice President of Enterprise Computing at NVIDIA, further highlighted the role of data in generative AI, noting that the integration enables enterprises to transform their data into actionable knowledge.

NetApp’s AI capabilities are certified for NVIDIA DGX BasePOD infrastructure and NVIDIA OVX solutions. This allows customers to discover, search, and curate data on-premises and in the cloud using existing policy-based governance criteria. Once the data is organized through BlueXP, it can be connected to NVIDIA NeMo Retriever for processing, vectorization, and eventual use in enterprise generative AI deployments while maintaining access controls and privacy safeguards.

The integration also creates a generative AI “flywheel,” a continuous feedback loop that powers autonomous AI agents to handle tasks such as customer service, business operations, and financial services. These agents can securely access data to perform complex tasks, bringing significant operational improvements to enterprises.

In addition to unlocking enterprise data for AI, the solution prioritizes security by preserving policy and governance protocols throughout the AI model lifecycle, ensuring compliance and security.
