QNAP Intros Affordable New Home Servers
QNAP has announced new 1-, 2-, and 4-drive Turbo NAS (Network Attached Storage) servers for home users and prosumers. The TS-x19P+ lineup have a built-in 1.6GHz Marvell processor, 512MB of RAM, and Gigabit LAN ports. The model lineup is as follows:
- Single drive: TS-119P+
- Dual drive: TS-219P+
- Four drive: TS-419P+
Consumers can use the Turbo NAS servers to share digital pictures, music, and videos with other computers in the home. The Turbo NAS servers allow file sharing between PCs, Macs, Linux, and UNIX-based computers. Additionally, they can be used for automatic backup of computers on the network, function as UPnP-compliant media servers, and act as a standalone file server.
The TS-x19P+ series can accommodate 2.5- and 3.5-inch drives up to 2TB in capacity; storage capacity can be expanded by connecting other drives to the NAS via USB or eSATA.
The QNAP TS-x19P+ series Turbo NAS servers will be available this month. Pricing information has not been announced.
NewerTech Intros USB 3.0 Universal Drive Adapter
Newer Technology, Inc. has introduced the USB 3.0 Universal Drive Adapter for connecting any 2.5", 3.5", or 5.25" hard drive/SSD/optical drive to Macs and PC via USB 3.0. It supports drives with IDE/ATA and SATA interfaces up to 2TB in size.
The product comes with power cables, interface connecting cables, and an AC adapter. It is available now from Other World Computing for $39.99.
Super Talent Ships 480GB SSD
Super Talent has announced it is now shipping its 480GB UltraDrive MX SSD. It has a dual-interface for both SATA and mini-USB connections, making it easy to use as an internal or external drive.
The UltraDrive MX features a JMicron 616 controller; the company claims performance is up to 250MB/s read and 180MB/s write. The drive supports GC and Trim features.
The UltraDrive MX is now available in 60, 120, 240, and 480GB capacities; the 480GB version is a hefty $1,159.99.
