CTERA Releases Enterprise File Services Platform 6.0
CTERA released the latest version of its Enterprise File Services Platform, version 6.0. According to the company, this new version adds advanced caching technology to both CTERA Gateways and the CTERA Drive app and enables workers to securely access, share and protect an “unlimited” number of files in the cloud as if they were stored locally on their desktop or on shared network drives. Version 6.0 is available now with a free trial for those that wish to take it for a spin first.
Cavium Releases XPliant 10GbE/25GbE Optimized Programmable Ethernet Switches
Cavium Inc. released two new families of 10GbE/25GbE optimized programmable Ethernet switches, the XP60 and XP70 families. The XP70 scales from 1Tbps to 1.8Tbps and provides cost-effective seamless 1GBASE-T to 10GBASE-T and 10GbE to 25GbE access connectivity upgrades for enterprise, data center, and carrier networks with support for 40GbE/100GbE uplink connectivity. The XP60 is aimed at campus, embedded, and carrier access markets with devices that scale from 280Gbps to 720Gbps. Both families are sampling to customers now.
Seagate Has Begun Shipping Its Nytro 141 SSD
Seagate quietly began shipping its new data center value SSD, the Nytro 141. The drives is aimed at data centers that need low-endurance SSD designed for server boot volumes, application servers, content storage, and media servers. Specifications include:

Toshiba & Lenovo Announce Partnership Integrating NVMe SSDs Into ThinkSystem & ThinkAgile Servers
Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. announced a partnership with Lenovo, integrating PX04P Series of NVMe SSDs with Lenovo’s new ThinkSystem and ThinkAgile servers. This takes Lenovo’s new line of servers aimed at expanding data center infrastructure to enable hyperscale and HPC deployment and software-defined deployments, and adds the PX04P’s performance and endurance to them.

Cray Partners With Seagate To Expand Its Storage Portfolio
Cray Inc. has entered a definitive deal with Seagate around the latter’s ClusterStor high-performance storage. The two companies will collaborate on future additions of ClusterStor products. Highlights of the partnership include:
- Seagate’s existing ClusterStor Lustre, Secure Data Appliance and Spectrum Scale customers will be able to receive service and support from Cray.
- Cray expects to add more than 100 employees, primarily in R&D, customer service and channel and reseller support.
- Cray and Seagate will collaborate to incorporate the latest Seagate technology into future ClusterStor and Cray Sonexion products.
- Cray will receive certain assistance from Seagate to provide support on existing service contracts.
- The transaction closing is expected to be completed late in the third quarter of 2017.
- Cray expects the net impact of the transaction for Cray to be in the range of breakeven for 2018.

VMware Updates vSphere 6.5 & vSAN to 6.6.1
This week VMware gave vSphere 6.5 its first update and in turn updated its popular HCI solution, vSAN, to version 6.6.1. The updates give vSAN a lower operational cost. vSAN has new licensing that extends its enterprise capabilities to ROBO and VDI environments. New features include:
- VMware vSphere Update Manager (VUM) integration
- Performance Diagnostics in vSAN Cloud Analytics
- Storage Device Serviceability enhancement
