Dell Technologies Reported Q4 & FY Earnings
Dell Technologies reported its fourth-quarter and full-year earnings with the company happily reporting that it had over $94 billion in revenue for the year. Highlights include:
Full fiscal year highlights:
- Record revenue of $94.2B, up 2%
- Record operating income up 96% to $5.1B and record non-GAAP operating income up 6% to $10.8B
- Record cash flow from operations of $11.4B
- Record Client Solutions Group shipments, revenue, and operating income
- Full-year diluted EPS was $4.22, and non-GAAP diluted EPS was $8.00
Q4 highlights:
- Third-quarter revenue $26.1B, up 9%
- Operating income up 204% to 2.1B, non-GAAP operating income up 19% to $3.3B
- EPS beat for the eighth consecutive quarter with diluted EPS at $1.57 and non-GAAP diluted EPS at $2.70
- Recurring revenue, which includes deferred revenue amortization, utility, and as-a-Service models was approximately $6B, up 8%
Nexsan Assureon Cloud Edition Announced
Nexsan, a StorCentric company, announced the GA of the Nexsan Assureon Cloud Edition. The solution is said to deliver:

Robin.io Supports IBM Cloud Satellite
Robin.io announced that is Kubernetes storage solution now runs on IBM Cloud Satellite. This will give customers the ability to bring Robin.io’s solutions to the environment of the user’s choice. As multi- and hybrid cloud become more and more dominant, this just makes adoption that much easier.
KIOXIA Releases Thinnest 1TB UFS 3.1
KIOXIA announced that they have begun sampling what they call the world’s thinnest 1TB Universal Flash Storage (UFS) Ver. 3.1 embedded flash memory devices. The new devices leverage the company’s BiCS FLASH 3D memory and are said to hit speeds up to 2,050MB/s read and 1,200MB/s write. Features include:
- WriteBooster: Enables significantly faster write speeds.
- Host Performance Booster (HPB) Ver. 2.0: Improves random read performance by utilizing the host side memory to store logical to physical translation tables. While HPB Ver. 1.0 only enables 4KB chunk size access, HPB Ver. 2.0 enables wider access – which can further boost random read performance.
OpenDrives & Spectra Logic Partner On End-to-End Data Storage & Lifecycle Management Solution
OpenDrives and Spectra Logic announced a partnership on an end-to-end, fully integrated data storage and storage lifecycle management solution to improve data storage workflows, ensure organizational agility and reduce costs. The combined solution is said to be OpenDrives’ high-performance, low-latency primary storage with Spectra Logic’s StorCycle Storage Lifecycle Management software. The main thrust here seems to be moving inactive (cold) data off of the primary tier to save costs. We’ve seen them before but this is geared toward much larger storage.
CTERA Announces A Strong 2020
CTERA announced that it, too, has had a strong 2020. The company realized a 47% YoY in annual recurring revenue. CTERA is now deployed in over 50,000 sites in 110 countries. Other highlights include:
- CTERA 7.0: Setting the Bar for Global File Systems – CTERA introduced industry-leading product innovation in 2020, including ultra-fast edge-to-cloud synchronization, secure geo-segmentation, a new macOS suite, and built-in data discovery and migration from legacy file storage. CTERA 7.0 represents the fastest, most feature-rich, and most secure multi-cloud global file system in the industry.
- CTERA for DevOps: Programmable Infrastructure – CTERA introduced a DevOps SDK that enables organizations to automate their file service deployments with just a few lines of code. CTERA’s DevOps SDK was quickly adopted in 2020 by our customer community and is used today for managing thousands of sites and millions of file shares.
- CTERA Ecosystem: Multi-Cloud Enabler – 2020 marked yet another year of expanding partnerships with key cloud and infrastructure providers, including the launch of CTERA File for HPE SimpliVity, a software-defined hybrid file add-on for HPE HCI. CTERA also received the IBM North America Channel Ecosystem Excellence award, as well as new designations from AWS including the AWS Digital Workplace Competency and the AWS Outposts Ready certification.
- CTERA Patents: Leading Innovation – CTERA was issued 10 new patents, bringing the total to 23 approved patents for its global file system. New patents included recognized techniques for securely sharing files from cloud storage and for optimizing data flows in hybrid cloud storage systems.
Cloudian Also Had A Strong 2020
Like most tech companies, Cloudian also had a strong 2020. The company announced its sixth consecutive fiscal year of record bookings, including its highest quarterly sales ever in the fourth quarter. The company expanded its customer base to over 550 representing a 36% increase.
