QNAP Unveils Wireless Adaptor Turning NAS Into AP
QNAP released its new QWA-AC2600 wireless adapter. This 2.4/5GHz dual band wireless adapter can be used with Ubuntu/Linux PCs or QNAP NAS to set up wireless access points or base stations for other wireless devices to directly access data inside it. Key specifications:
- QWA-AC2600: PCIe 2.0 x1 interface, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, 2.4/5 GHz DBDC, 4 x 4 MU-MIMO, max. 2533 Mbps, antennas detachable, with magnetic stand base and full-height & specialized (for selected QNAP NAS) brackets included

Mellanox Announces Hyper-Scalable Enterprise Framework
Mellanox launched its new Hyper-scalable Enterprise Framework, what it call the industry’s first truly scalable, open framework for private cloud and enterprise data centers. Key elements include:
- High Performance Networks – Mellanox end-to-end suite of 25G, 50G, and 100G adapters, cables, and switches is proven within hyperscale data centers who have adopted these solutions for the simple reason that an intelligent and high performance network delivers total infrastructure efficiency
- Open Networking – an open and fully disaggregated networking platform is key to scalability and flexibility as well as achieving operational efficiency
- Converged Networks on an Ethernet Storage Fabric – a fully converged network supporting compute, communications, and storage on a single integrated fabric
- Software Defined Everything and Virtual Network Acceleration – Enables enterprise to enjoy the benefits of the hyperscalers who have embraced software defined networking, storage, and virtualization – or software defined everything (SDX)

Samsung Releases 10nm-Class 32GB DDR4 SoDIMMs
Aimed at gaming laptops, Samsung has begun mass producing 32GB DDR4 memory SoDIMMs. This memory is based on 10NM technology that will result in higher speeds, better capacity, and lower energy usage. Gaming laptops outfitted with the new 32GB SoDIMMs can hit speeds of 2,666Mbps.
Maxta Now Supports Red Hat OpenShift
Maxta announced that it now supports Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform. The company will provide a comprehensive private cloud infrastructure along with support for Red Hat Virtualization.
HP Releases New ProBook x360 440 G1
HP has released a new ProBook with 8th Gen Intel Core Processors, the ProBok x360 440. Features include:
- Built for business: Defend against malicious attacks with built-in security from HP BIOSphere Gen4, a firmware ecosystem that automates protection of the BIOS, plus get commercial-grade durability and easy serviceability.
- Power to boost productivity: Power through your day with a high-performance Intel Core processor, long battery life, and support for USB Type-C docking enabling data, video and power through a single cable.
- Adapts for the way you work: The ultra-slim notebook adapts throughout the day, with four use modes – tent, stand, tablet, and traditional laptop – so you can create, present, and collaborate in a comfortable way.
The new computer is expected to be available this month starting at $599.
TYAN Adds AMD EPYC-Based HPC Servers
TYAN has added single socket (and one dual) servers based off of AMD’s EPYC CPU. These include:
- Transport SX GT62F-B8026: 1U single-socket EPYC processor-based platform with support for up to 16 DDR4 DIMM slots, 2 PCIe x16 slots, and 10 2.5” hot-swap drive bays. These bays are pre-configured to support 10 NVMe U.2, or 10 SATA 6Gb/s drives
- Transport SX TN70A-B8026: 2U single-socket EPYC processor-based platform with support for up to 16 DDR4 DIMM slots, 5 PCIe x8 slots, and 24 2.5” hot-swap drive bays. These bays are pre-configured to support 24 NVMe U.2, or 16/8 SATA 6Gb/s plus 8/16 NVMe U.2, or 24 SATA 6Gb/s drives.
- Transport SX TN70E-B8026: 2U single-socket EPYC processor-based platform with support for up to 16 DDR4 DIMM slots, 1 PCIe x8 slot, and 12 3.5” hot-swap SAS 12Gb/s or SATA 6Gb/s drives, 4 of the bays support NVMe U.2 drives by option
- Transport HX GA88-B8021: 1U single-socket EPYC processor-based platform with support for up to 4 double-width, or 6 single-width GPU cards, 16 DDR4 DIMM slots, 1 PCIe x16 slot, and 2 2.5" hot-swap SATA 6Gb/s drives.
- Transport HX TN76A-B8242: 2U dual-socket EPYC processor-based platform with support for up to 32 DDR4 DIMM slots, 9 PCIe x8 slots, and 26 2.5” hot-swap SATA 6Gb/s devices, 24 of the bays support NVMe U.2 drives by option
- Tomcat SX S8026: single-socket EPYC processor-based server motherboard in EATX (12” x 13”) form factor for all-flash storage server deployment
Intel Introduces 380GB M.2 Optane SSD
Intel’s Optane technology shows a lot of promise with one of the biggest drawbacks being that it typically has low capacity. Intel is slowly but surely rectifying this with announcements such as this one with a new M.2 SSD, the 905P, with 380GB of capacity. The new SSD is expected to be available this summer.
Marvell Launches New Client NVMe SSD Controller Family
Marvell released its latest NVMe SSD controller family that is aimed at mainstream and high-performance PC client and edge computing, the 4-channel 88SS1084 and the 8-channel 88SS1100. The new family can provide up to 3.6GB/s of bandwidth and up to 700K IOPS. The 88SS1084 and 88SS1100 SSD controllers are available now.
Riverbed Releases Latest Version Of SteelCentral
Riverbed released the latest version of its digital experience management (DEM) platform, SteelCentral. The company states this marks the first unified application performance management (APM) and end-user experience monitoring solution. Benefits include:

Netstor Releases Thunderbolt 3 LTO Archiving Solutions
Netstor released its to Thunderbolt 3 LTO archiving storage NS372TB3 and other LTO solutions. The NS372TB3 can hold up to two half-height LTO tape drives inlucinding LTO-8, LTO-7, and LTO-6. The Thunderbolt 3 interface gives them an extremely fast connection as well.
