TerraMaster Launches U4-111 Enterprise-Class Storage Server
TerraMaster has launched a storage server with the U4-111. This is a fairly small, 1U server with four drive bays across the front. The server comes with an Intel Celeron 1.5GHz quad-core CPU, up to 8GB of RAM and onboard 10GbE. With HDDs and leveraging the 10GbE, the company claims transfer speeds of up to 670MB/s. The server can be picked up for about $800.
Bamboo Systems Granted New Patent
Bamboo Systems announce that it has been granted a new patent in the UK (GB2574800). This patent is for “a system and method for bridging computer resources.” Nothing vague about that. In essence, the patent is because the company permits different classes of data bridges between I/O resources while maintaining the compatibility of existing application interfaces.
QNAP Expands Its Switch Portfolio
This week QNAP announced the QSW-M2108 2.5GbE & 10GbE L2 Web Managed Switch Series and the QGD-3014-16PT Desktop Smart Edge PoE Switch. The QSW-M2108 series is all about bandwidth utilization and is aimed at SMBs. Key specs include:
- QSW-M2108-2C: 10 ports (2 10GbE SFP+/RJ45 combo ports and 8 2.5GbE RJ45 ports.
- QSW-M2108-2S: 10 ports (2 10GbE SFP+ ports and 8 2.5GbE RJ45 ports.
The QGD-3014-16PT Desktop Smart Edge PoE Switch is designed for multi-site intelligent IP surveillance. Key specs include:
Intel Celeron J4125 quad-core processor, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 4 x 3.5 inch SATA 6Gb/s drive bays, 2 x M.2 SATA slots; 16 x RJ45 Gigabit 802.3at 30-watt PoE ports, 2 x Gigabit RJ45/SFP combo ports, 2 x 2.5GbE host management ports; 3 x USB 3.0 ports, 2 x HDMI 2.0
Datadobi & Wasabi Announce A Partnership
Datadobi and Wasabi have formed a Technology Alliance Partnership. Now Datadobi’s DobiMigrate and DobiProtect have been validated to work on Wasabi hot cloud storage. The new combine solution is said to provide an enterprise-class solution for migrating unstructured data from anywhere to Wasabi hot cloud storage, as well as enhanced protection against accidents, ransomware, and other cyberthreats. All of the above and at a lower price.
Excelero Announces Support For Next-Gen Intel Optane
Excelero announced that their NVMesh software now supports Intel’s next-gen Optane announced earlier this week. This will be beneficial for artificial intelligence, high performance computing, databases and data analytics. The software leverages the Intel Optane P5800X (Intel P5800X Review) and promises to deliver customers the following:
- Customers can benefit from Excelero’s ground-breaking high performance distributed erasure coding technology with any NVMe drive efficiently, including QLC drives.
- Their demanding applications can get even better write performance with the NVMesh distributed erasure coding data protection in addition to the strong read performance and space efficiency they are used to and value.
- Customers can handle mixed read-write workloads, from small files to large streams, with very high efficiency and without interference between them.
WekaIO & Rancher Partner On Kubernetes Deployments
WekaIO announced a partnership with Rancher Labs on interoperability between WekaFS and Rnacher’s Kubernetes management platform. This will make an integrated, end-to-end tested solution that enables accelerated DataOps.
Clumio Launches Ransomware Protection
Clumio announced what it is referring to as the industry’s first air-gapped ransomware protection, with 30-day retention for VMware / VMware Cloud on AWS, Amazon Web Services (EC2/RDS/EBS), and Microsoft M365 data. The company also claims the fastest time to protection with the elimination of the need for businesses to locate a second air gap site, buy more hardware, manage a separate backup network or manage air gap network security. Clumio RansomProtect is available now as Service.
Morpheus Expands Hybrid Cloud Self-Service Portfolio
Morpheus Data released new software and program updates all about accelerating hybrid cloud management projects over the next year. Highlights include:
- Morpheus Essentials license for smaller enterprises needing private and hybrid cloud for VMware, Nutanix, AWS, Azure, and GCP starting at just $16,000.
- 2 release adds integrated SCAP Scanning for SecOps and enhances single-click shopping cart UI to enable true anything-as-a-service (XaaS) simplicity.
- Plug-in Framework enables expansion to the already nearly 100 hybrid cloud integrations included to unify third-party tools with no code required.
JetStream DR for Azure VMWare Solution Announced
JetStream announced its DRaaS, JetStream DR, will support Microsoft Azure VMware Solution. The software will be used alongside the Azure Blob Storage. JetStream DR can be used to protect VMware VMs in the customer’s on-premises data center with failover and VM recovery in Azure VMware Solution. Benefits include:
- Cost-Effective DR: Maintains VMs and their data in Azure Blob Storage, enabling enterprise-grade DR at a lower cost of operation.
- Agentless CDP: Captures and replicates data continuously via VMware IO Filters for continuous data protection without VM agents.
- vSphere to vSphere Recovery: Supports Azure VMware Solution, so customers no longer need to maintain a failover site. They can failover to Azure VMware Solution and failback as needed when the original protected data center is restored.
- Storage-Independent: Protects VMs in all VMware-compatible datastore types: block, file, vSAN, VVOL and third-party HCI.
- Live Failback: Returns VMs to the protected site from Azure VMware Solution without interruption to VMs’ operation or protection.
- Decoupled Design: Azure Blob Storage is more than just a journal or “cold data tier” — it is the sole repository for all VMs, data, configuration metadata, and recovery policies.
