NetApp AFA Now Shipping With Toshiba HK4 SSDs
Toshiba and NetApp have announced that Toshiba HK4 SSDs will now be shipping on NetApp SolidFire SF4805, SF9605 and SF19210 all-flash arrays. This also marks the first non-encrypted SATA SSDs to be shipped on SolidFire AFAs. The use of non-encrypted drives gives NetApp the opportunity to reach new markets.
Druva Expands Global Cloud Footprint
Druva announced that its has expanded the reach of its public cloud offerings to markets in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Hong Kong. This expansion enables customers to better meet regulation challenges across the world. Not only does this support existing customers around the world, it could potentially open Druva up to new customers with specific regulations for their regions.
Cisco Announces Intent To Acquire Viptela
Cisco has announced its intention to acquire the privately held software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) company, Viptela Inc. This acquisition will expand on Cisco’s existing SD-WAN portfolio. The deal is expected to go through for $610 million in cash and assumed equity awards and take place later in 2017.
Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform Now Available On AWS
This week at the Red Hat Summit 2017 in Boston, MA, Red Hat Inc. announced a new container-native storage solution aimed at extending the portability of containerized applications across the hybrid cloud. This new solution offers consistent, software-defined storage for stateful applications using Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 3.5 with Red Hat Gluster Storage 3.2. And Red Hat is announcing the availability of Red Hat Gluster Storage for Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform in AWS environments.
Datrium & Sphere 3D Partner On Ready Nodes
Datrium has partnered with Sphere 3D Corp. (a containerization, virtualization, and data management solutions provider) to create Datrium ready nodes specifically for Sphere 3D’s HVE line. The ready nodes will come in two distinct flavors, one geared more toward virtualization and the other more toward VDI. The HVE ready nodes combine Datrium DVX data nodes with optimized HVE servers as compute nodes.
Datos IO Announces RecoverX 2.0
Datos IO announced the latest version of its flagship data protection software, RecoverX 2.0. New capabilies and enhancements include:
- Migration of on-premise applications to and across clouds with new data mobility for relational databases – organizations that are migrating traditional applications (starting with Microsoft SQL Server) to the cloud can now intelligently and efficiently move non-recovery workloads from on-premises to the cloud, across clouds, and from the cloud back to on-premises, with storage efficiency that is 10x that of traditional block-based or variable-length deduplication techniques.
- Cloud-native backup and recovery for traditional and next-generation applications – RecoverX 2.0 introduces data protection support for relational databases including Microsoft SQL Server hosted in private cloud or natively in public cloud environments, providing application-centric data protection regardless of deployment on physical server, virtual machine (VM), or hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI).
- Backup and Recovery for Big Data Filesystems – RecoverX 2.0 adds data protection support for Apache Hadoop distributions including Cloudera and Hortonworks providing petabyte scale backup and recovery for HDFS-based filesystems, fast recovery at file-level granularity, and unparalleled storage efficiency with file-based global semantic deduplication.
- Elastic Scaling – RecoverX 2.0 is now available as a five-node software cluster for high performance, availability and scale, and can be scaled up (three-node to five-node) and down (five-node to three-node) as application requirements dictate.
- Enterprise Policy Management – further simplifies and automates data protection operations, including adding/removing/pausing/resuming backups, backup NOW, and rule-based addition for dynamically generated database objects (e.g., tables).
- Operational Metrics – RecoverX 2.0 enhances operational monitoring by delivering rich analytics on data source patterns and data protection.
Unitrends Releases Version 10 Of Its Backup Products
This week Unitrends released the latest version, version 10, of its Recovery Series backup appliances and Unitrends Backup virtual appliances. While full support for Microsoft Hyper-V 2016 was added in the latest addition, the two big capabilities added include:
- SLA Policy Automation – Unitrends v10 controls the initiation and flow of backups and backup copies through a single, simple policy. IT administrators simply set RPOs, RTOs, where data should go, and how long it should be kept. Unitrends automates the entire underlying process, including the analytics and business-level reporting of compliance with those SLAs. Optionally combine SLA-based policies with granular enterprise scheduling options, and Unitrends can meet the protection demands of any workload.
- Automated Provisioning – Enterprise IT and DevOps can instantly access production data, applications and full labs for testing, development, compliance and other business functions with no impact to the production environment. Supporting both physical and virtual environments, Unitrends extends the function of a backup to orchestrate instant spin-up of on-demand labs, while limiting lab access control to key stakeholders.
Commvault Releases Q4 2017 Earnings

Commvault announced a very successful quarter bringing in $172.9 million in revenue for the quarter and $650.5 million for the fiscal year. Commvault reported a GAAP net income of $3.2 million and a non-GAAP net income of $13.7 million. For the fiscal year, Commvault reported a GAAP net income of $0.5 million and a non-GAAP net income of $48 million. Operating cash flow was $29 million for Q4 20.
