Nexenta today announced NexentaStor 4.1, which includes a new all-flash mode for low latency all-SSD architectures along with closer integration with VAAI and vCenter Management. The company also announced the new NexentaConnect for VMware Virtual SAN, which adds SMB and NFS file services to VMware’s Virtual SAN solution. NexentaConnect for VMware Horizon 3.0 incorporates updates to improve automation and acceleration for VMware Horizon virtual desktop environments.

NexentaStor 4.1
NexentaStor 4.1 is the latest version of Nexenta’s flagship software-defined storage solution with support for block and file storage configurations and unlimited snapshots, clones, and long distance replication. NexentaStor 4.1 improves integration with VMware and Microsoft environments and introduces all-SSD reference architectures with up to 150TB of raw flash storage along with inline data deduplication and compression. NexentaStor 4.1 features new integrations with VMware VAAI and vCenter Management. NexentaStor 4.1 also now supports 12Gbps SAS and 16Gbps FC network adaptors along with SMB 3.0.
NexentaConnect for VMware Virtual SAN
The new NexentaConnect for VMware Virtual SAN can be used to add NFSv3, NFSv4, and SMB file services to VMware Virtual SAN deployments by utilizing storage in host servers. This storage is managed through a vCenter console and can leverage security and domain integration, Active Directory Authentication and Authorization, and Kerberos support. NexentaConnect also provides inline compression and deduplication, IO path handling, and performance and health monitoring. The new solution is validated for virtual desktop workloads of up to 6,400 users and can provide folder and volume snapshots with replication and backup capabilities for disaster recovery.
NexentaConnect 3.0 for VMware Horizon
NexentaConnect 3.0 for VMware Horizon features acceleration and automation for virtual desktop environments deployed with VMware Horizon 6 or Citrix XenDesktop on vSphere. The new release offers advanced analytics on a per desktop and pool basis and read cache acceleration for non-persistent environments. It incorporates advancements to NexentaConnect’s write caching capabilities and SAN offloading in order to further accelerate virtual desktops. NexentaConnect 3.0 for VMware Horizon also improves support for graphics intensive virtual desktops by utilizing Blast and GPU acceleration.
Availability
NexentaConnect for VMware Virtual SAN will be available in Q3 2014. NexentaStor 4.1 will be available in Q4 2014.
