Nimble Storage SmartStack Reference Architecture Announced

by Mark Kidd

Nimble Storage is currently announcing its new SmartStack for Business Critical Applications architecture, which leverages Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) B-series blade servers, VMware vSphere 5.1, and flash-optimized Nimble Storage CS-Series arrays. This architecture is designed to streamline the deployment of modular, 500-user converged infrastructure building blocks for applications such as Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint, and SQL Server. Pre-validated reference architectures minimize deployment challenges and minimize deployment time making for a much more efficient IT experience.

SmartStack for Business Critical Applications is specified for downtime-intolerant deployments, for example 24/7 data center operation. The SmartStack architecture’s modular approach is a good fit with Cisco’s UCS B-Series, which like Nimble Storage’s CS-Series arrays is engineered for flexible scalability.

All Nimble Storage solutions are built on Nimble’s Cache Accelerated Sequential Layout (CASL) architecture, which caches active data in real time; coalesces random writes to the array for compression and writing sequentially to disk; and which provides other core functionality including snapshots, replication, and scaling.
