Nutanix has released a new tool as part of their Nutanix “Nirvana” Service Delivery Platform, the Nutanix Sizer Tool. With this new tool customers will be able to know which Nutanix appliance model is best for running their specific workloads, how many nodes needed for optimal capacity and performance, and the rack layout, power, and cooling requirements for their Web-Scale data center without the complexity. This insight helps, especially those who are new to hyperconverged infrastucture, better understand the needs of their environment.

Sizing a workload correctly takes complex math and answers to several questions such as: What type of workload, VDI, Exchange, or SQL Server? How many VMs, VDI Desktops, and servers? What are the configuration parameters? What is the best node configuration for the workload? The Sizer Tool takes Nutanix workload as input, generates sizing information, and then recommends the Nutanix configuration to best meet the requirements for the workload, eliminating the guesswork. The tool also provides an accurate visual representation of the configuration it recommends and displays the organization of the nodes into the racks and clusters.
In the future of the Sizer tool will have integration with TCO and ROI tools as well as integration with third partner discovery tools. Along with this integration, the tool will have more advanced configuration and planning.
Key features include:
- Recommendations for VDI and server virtualization workloads
- Visual display of recommended nodes in cluster and racks
- Bar chart display of capacity utilization
- Ability to size multiple design scenarios
- Ability to save workload details for later use
