Object First announced a significant enhancement to their Ootbi storage solution, increasing the storage capacity to 192TB on a single node. This new capability unlocks up to 768TB of usable immutable backup storage per cluster, allowing customers to manage storage capacity more efficiently and secure data backups without compromising performance.

The 192TB appliance joins the 64TB and 128TB fully interoperable appliances.

We recently published a detailed review for Object First Ootbi: Simple Ransomware-Proof Backups For Veeam.

Chief Product Officer at Object First, Eric Schott, emphasized the company’s dedication to innovation and meeting customer needs for secure and adaptable storage. Schott stated, “Support for more immutable storage allows customers to scale with the growing demands of modern environments while protecting data against threats like ransomware. The continuous integration with Veeam’s 12.1.2 release allows for even greater backup storage capacities beyond 3PB as part of a Veeam backup repository.”

As data volume continues to grow in private and commercial sectors, the need for larger, secure backup storage targets becomes critical. Ootbi meets these demands by providing flexible sizing options and allowing for easy lab expansion. It maintains high security and ransomware resilience standards, incorporating tamper-proofing and security-hardening measures.

Key Capabilities of Ootbi 1.5 Release and 192TB Appliance

The enhanced Ootbi now has increased storage capacity, supporting up to 192TB on a single node. This allows for up to 768TB of usable immutable backup storage per cluster, a significant capacity increase. This enhancement ensures that organizations can efficiently handle larger datasets and more complex workloads.

With the continuous integration of Veeam’s 12.1.2 release, Ootbi clusters can now be used as multiple extents in a Veeam scale-out backup repository (SOBR). This integration enables backup storage capacities to exceed 3PB, providing organizations with the scalability for growing data environments.

The Ootbi 1.5 release undergoes continuous third-party security testing and validation, further enhancing Object First’s out-of-the-box hardening. It includes additional support for Network Time Security (NTS) time service options and named administrators, ensuring robust protection against security threats.

David Bennett, Object First CEO, highlighted the mission to provide secure, simple, and powerful on-premises backup storage tailored to the specific needs of Veeam customers.  Bennet stated, “We’re able to offer three different storage capacity sizes without compromising configuration, performance, or security, giving customers the best storage for Veeam.”

Availability

Ootbi version 1.5 is generally available today. The Ootbi 192TB appliance is expected to be available worldwide in August 2024.
