Object First has expanded its immutable storage portfolio with new Ootbi appliances, offering businesses enhanced backup performance and ransomware protection.
Object First has announced the release of three new Ootbi (Out-of-the-Box-Immutability) appliances. The latest models significantly expand the available capacities to include 20TB, 40TB, and a high-capacity option of 432TB. This expanded product lineup enables businesses, from small to large organizations, to benefit from robust immutable backup storage solutions, supporting use cases ranging from 20TB to 7PB.
Object First introduced Ootbi, the ransomware-proof backup storage appliance purpose-built for Veeam®, in 2023. Details can be found in our in-depth 2024 review.
Additionally, Object First has released new firmware that improves performance and enhances recovery speeds by approximately 20% across the entire new product line. The largest offering, the 432TB model, features doubled data ingest performance, achieving up to 8 GB/s in a fully configured four-node cluster setup.
As ransomware threats escalate, organizations across industries recognize immutable storage as a critical component of their broader data resilience strategies. Recent research commissioned by Informa TechTarget’s Enterprise Strategy Group underscores the urgency, revealing that 96% of companies affected by ransomware attacks within the past two years have seen their backup data explicitly targeted by attackers.
According to Simon Robinson, Principal Analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group, approximately 81% of IT professionals identify immutable backup storage as the most effective defense mechanism against ransomware threats. Robinson emphasizes that in addition to immutability, organizations require enhanced security integrations and more substantial compliance with Zero Trust principles. Object First addresses these industry demands effectively by delivering simplified yet highly efficient immutable storage solutions, ensuring that recovery processes are reliable, prompt, and operationally efficient.
With the introduction of these new appliance models, Object First dramatically expands its market reach, offering flexible and scalable solutions suitable for diverse organizational needs. The smaller capacity appliances of 20TB and 40TB are ideal for small and mid-sized businesses requiring dependable backup solutions without large-scale infrastructure investments. The larger 432TB appliance meets the needs of enterprises seeking scalable storage solutions, which can seamlessly scale up to 1.7 PB within a four-node configuration. Furthermore, integration with Veeam’s Scale-Out Backup Repository (SOBR) enables organizations to expand their storage environments even further, achieving capacities exceeding 7 PB.
Additionally, Object First emphasizes investment protection by enabling customers to seamlessly combine new and existing hardware, irrespective of the original purchase date. This flexibility underscores the long-term value proposition and strategic advantage of adopting Ootbi technology.
