Object First Introduces Pay-Per-Use Consumption Model for Flexible Immutable Storage

by Harold Fritts

The Object First Consumption model provides secure, simple, and robust immutable backup storage without the heavy lifting of hardware lifecycle management.

Object first used the VeeemON 2025 event to announce a new pay-per-use consumption model for the United States, offering customers, resellers, and service providers a modern alternative to the traditional capital expenditure (CapEx) purchasing model. This new approach provides secure, simple, and powerful immutable backup storage, eliminating the need for upfront investments and the burden of managing hardware lifecycles.

David Bennett, CEO of Object First, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to strong ransomware protection through immutable storage. He introduced the new Consumption model, which offers flexibility and reduced risks for businesses of all sizes. Bennett assured customers that, regardless of their choice between the Consumption model and the traditional CapEx approach, their backup data will remain secure against cyber threats.

Key Benefits of the Consumption Model

The new consumption model offers several advantages designed to meet the evolving needs of businesses.

Pay for What You Use, Scale as Needed

The Consumption model allows customers to access backup storage capacities ranging from 17 TB to 7 PB without upfront payment. With a straightforward monthly billing structure and a one-year subscription, businesses can achieve cost efficiency as they scale, benefiting from reduced per-terabyte pricing as their storage needs grow.

Hardware Refreshes and Updates Included

Unlike traditional models, the Consumption model eliminates the need for customers to purchase or manage hardware. All technology refreshes, services, support, and software updates are included in the subscription. Customers only pay for their storage, ensuring they stay updated with the latest advancements without incurring additional costs.

Predictable Billing and Simplified Management

Object First’s Consumption model minimizes the risks associated with over- or under-sizing storage environments. With tools like the Object First Storage Calculator, expert technical support, and access to a robust partner network, customers can accurately plan their storage needs while maintaining predictable billing.

Simplifying Storage Capacity Planning

Object First’s innovative approach to storage capacity planning utilizes advanced object storage sizing tools and fosters expert collaboration with customers and partners. This ensures businesses can accurately assess their backup storage requirements for years to come, avoiding the pitfalls of under- and over-provisioning. Customers also benefit from continuous access to the latest software, operating system, and firmware updates, along with expert technical support and on-site service.

Empowering Service Providers

The Consumption model is particularly advantageous for service providers, enabling them to deploy Object First’s Ootbi (Out-of-the-Box Immutability) solution on-premises in their data centers without significant upfront investments. This flexibility allows service providers to scale their Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) and Disaster Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS) offerings while maintaining the highest levels of security and compliance. Additional details can be found in our podcast with Anthony Cusimano, Director of Technical Marketing at Object First.

With the introduction of the Consumption model, Object First continues to reshape the landscape of immutable storage, making it more accessible, flexible, and secure for businesses of all sizes.
