OCZ Launches Talos 2 Enterprise SSDs

by Brian Beeler

OCZ Technology (Nasdaq:OCZ) has released their second generation Talos enterprise SSD. The Talos 2 is a dual-ported SAS 6G drive that increases capacity to 1TB in a 2.5″ form factor. The first generation Talos was launched in May of this year and only available in a 3.5″ form factor. Talos 2 leverages OCZ’s Virtualized Controller Architecture 2.0 technology and the speedy interface to deliver random transactional performance at up to 70,000 4K IOPS and improved mixed workload (75% read; 25% write) performance of up to 42,000 8K IOPS.

The Talos 2 will come in many configurations to suit customer demand. The 2.5″ drives will be available in 100GB to 1TB capacities, and can use MLC, eMLC or SLC NAND. As noted, the Talos 2 offers a dual-ported SAS 6G interface which offers increased performance and data integrity over the standard SAS interface.

The Talos family includes several enterprise features like DuraWrite Assurance, to protect data during an unexpected power loss. OCZ is also offering an option to enable T10-DIF (Data Integrity Field), allowing for the insertion of 8 bytes of additional data during transfers to ensure complete data integrity.
