OCZ has released its Synapse Cache Series 2.5” SSDs designed to bring SSD speed across large hard drives. The Synapse Cache SSDs use Dataplex cache software from NVELO to dynamically cache the most frequently requested files on the hard drive, delivering them much more quickly from the on-board NAND rather than the hard drive’s platters.
The Synapse Cache SSD continues OCZ’s line of products that combine the speed benefits of an SSD with capacity benefits of a hard drive. Just a few weeks ago OCZ announced the RevoDrive Hybrid that accomplishes this goal in the PCIe form factor.
The Synapse Cache SSD is highlighted by MLC NAND and a SATA 6Gb/s interface and delivers 550 MB/s read speeds, 510 MB/s writes and 80,000 IOPS in the 128GB capacity and 550 MB/s reads, 490 MB/s writes and 75,000 IOPS in the 64GB capacity. Both drives come with a three year warranty and include a 3.5" mounting bracket.
Availability
OCZ Synapse Cache SSDs are available now in 2.5” SATA III 64GB and 128GB configurations. Pricing will be $149/$249 for the 64GB and 128GB models respectively.
