At the Barclay’s Capital Global Technology Conference today OCZ Technology has announced plans to showcase both the enterprise Z-Drive R5 and consumer-based TLC SSDs at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in January. The Z-Drive R5 follows hot on the heels of the Z-Drive R4 and promises to more than double IOPS performance, going from 1.5 million in the R4 to over 3 million IOPS in the R5. OCZ also announced plans to show off TLC client SSDs, the first to hit the consumer market using lower-cost three bit per cell NAND.

Both comments were consistent with the company’s comments at the Needham conference about a month ago. The TLC-based SSDs will not only be the first to market, but they will also cut the price of those SSDs by 30% or more.

The OCZ Z-Drive R5 is obviously geared toward data centers and other enterprise clients who are looking to leverage the power of high-throughput SSDs. The Z-Drive R5 is expected to ship in early 2012.

OCZ and Apple

Ryan Petersen, CEO of OCZ, was asked about a current popular rumor circulating around OCZ providing SSDs for the next generation of MacBook products. Mr. Petersen of course could not comment on the rumor but the speculation is fun, at least for the analysts.
