OWC has quietly rolled out a significant improvement to their Mercury Extreme Pro 6G family of SSDs. Previously OWC was using 25nm IMFT synchronous NAND in these drives. Now the entire line has migrated to 32nm Toshiba toggle NAND, the same high quality and high performance NAND found in the OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS and the Patriot Wildfire.

Now the entire line has migrated to 32nm Toshiba toggle NAND, the same high quality and high performance NAND found in the OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS and the Patriot Wildfire.
OWC also tossed in another upgrade in their 240GB and 480GB ME Pro 6G – they’ve switched form the SandForce SF-2281 controller to the SF-2282 controller. Functionally, the controllers are near identical, but the SF-2282 handles 16 byte lanes, where the SF-2281 only does 8.
The new drive configuration should give the Mercury Extreme Pro 6G a little more pop, something that’s always welcome to the enthusiasts. In fact, with the new controller, this could be the fastest single SSD on the market. We have both a revised 120GB and 240GB model and will be updating benchmarks and a revised review soon.
