Panzura Introduces New Freedom Product Line

by Adam Armstrong

Today Panzura introduced a new product line that enables organizations to tackle the growing unstructured data challenges through a combination of cloud storage economics and flash performance. This new Freedom product line consists of Freedom Archive, Freedom NAS, and Freedom Collaboration. As the name implies, this new product line can free companies from storing unstructured data on expensive NAS systems while enabling them to move, manage, and access that data in any cloud.

The new product line allows customers to choose which hybrid cloud storage functionality they need for their business today and easily upgrade it in the future as demands increase or change. Freedom Archive was announced at the tail end of last year and as we said at the time, Freedom Archive aims to put the data in-between primary storage and what is typically thought of as archive storage such as tape or even optical disk. The new solution from Panzura combines the scalability and cost-effectiveness of the cloud with high-performance local cache, giving users the ability to retrieve important data while storing massive amounts of less used data.

Features include:

  • Deduplication and compression
  • Intelligent caching
  • Cloud-backed with 11 nines of availability
  • Offsite protection
  • Support for database and VMDK archiving
  • Full support of snapshots for data versioning and retention
  • Extended access control lists (ACLs) for granular permissions-based file access
  • FIPS 140-2 certified with AES-256 bit encryption

One of the two new functions announced today is Freedom NAS. Freedom NAS centralizes shared data and home directories in the cloud but keeps active data cached close to the users and applications that need it. This ups performance while avoiding the costs associated with deploying separate primary, backup, and archive storage at each site. Local users will have full read/write abilities with the global namespace. Offsite users will be able to read data from a central cloud repository.

Features include:

  • All tiers of storage in one
  • Deduplication and compression
  • Intelligent caching
  • Cloud-backed with 11 nines of availability
  • Snapshots
  • Extended access control lists (ACLs) for granular permissions-based file access
  • FIPS 140-2 certified with AES-256 bit encryption
  • Global Namespace

The other new function announced today is Freedom Collaboration. As the name suggests this function builds off of the benefits of the other two and provides full cross-site collaboration of project files wherever they are located. Global teams will have instant access to data, no longer having to wait for the files to open or sync. There will be no need to keep local copies of files any longer that saves companies from version control issues. With Freedom Collaboration all files are read-write accessible at every site as though on a local, locking filer and all of the data is backed by a central cloud data repository.

Features include:

  • Distributed file and element locking
  • File integrity everywhere
  • Global metadata
  • Intelligent caching
  • Cloud-backed
  • All tiers of storage in one
  • Deduplication and compression
  • Fast sync for large files
  • Global snapshots
  • Global Namespace
  • FIPS 140-2 certified with AES-256 bit encryption

All three of the new solutions above use Panzura Freedom Flash Cache. Freedom Flash Cache is available as both physical and/or a virtual appliance. The cache model of choice is installed at each site and are offered in varying configurations depending on customer needs. All models of Panzura Freedom Flash Cache use enterprise server-grade hardware and SSDs to optimize performance.

Availability

Freedom Archive, Freedom NAS, and Freedom Collaboration are all available now. Freedom products work across all major public cloud providers, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google, and IBM Cloud as well as private cloud object storage providers including IBM and EMC.
