Plextor, developer and manufacturer of high-performance digital media and storage equipment, has announced the availability of the 100K Xtreme firmware update for the M5 Pro SSD. The Plextor M5 Pro Xtreme update enables the SSD to deliver random-read speeds up to 100,000 IOPS as well as improved maximum random-write speeds at 88,000 IOPS. It also improves sequential write and read speeds to 470MB/s and 540MB/s respectively.

The M5 Pro Xtreme retains features that make it as a professional SSD; this includes a calculated mean time between failures of 2.4 million hours. This level of reliability and efficiency was made possible through strict quality control with a pre-production testing requirement of 400 drives that passed 500 hours of rigorous error-free tests.

The M5 Pro Xtreme includes Plextor’s True Protect enterprise-grade dual-stage data debugging feature with 256-bit AES full-drive encryption protection technology. Additionally, it makes use of the latest Marvell 88SS9187 controller modified with exclusive Plextor True Speed technology as well as Toshiba’s new 19 nm Toggle NAND. With these features, the M5 Pro Xtreme sets set the bar high in accuracy, protection of data, reliability, and speed.
