Speaking of performance, the GM7 is capable of reaching 7400MB/s for reads and 6300MB/s for writes and can deliver up to 100,000 IOPS. It is also noteworthy that the drive does not use a DRAM cache, which helps to keep its power consumption low at just 5.67 W (maximum). The lack of DRAM also keeps the price of the drives attainable for mainstream use cases. The SSD does include HMB (Host Memory Buffer) and SLC cache to help provide burst performance without the DRAM.
In terms of quality, BiWIN, who makes the drive, says the “GM7 SSD uses high-quality memory ICs that meet JEDEC standards and are selected through a rigorous testing process.” One of the other features of the GM7 SSD is its thermal throttling capability. It is equipped with a Thermal Throttle and Power management system that helps to dissipate heat efficiently and extend the battery life of laptops. We haven’t logged any time with this Maxio controller, so these features will warrant additional research when we get a drive in for review.
The Predator GM7 is available in three capacities: 512 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB. The 512 GB model costs $49.99, the 1TB model costs $89.99, and the 2TB model comes in at $159.99. The drive has a classic M.2 2280 interface that is compatible with laptops, desktops, and the PS5 external drives.
A general availability date is not yet known.
