PROMISE Technology today announced the forthcoming launch of its VSky A-Series family of storage solutions which are designed to support petabyte-scale volumes for applications such as backup and archiving, media editing, video surveillance, virtual environments, and content delivery. The A-Series uses a single flat namespace as part of an architecture that can be deployed with support for object, file, and block storage.

The A-Series will initially be available in the form of the VSky A1100 and the A1970 appliances. The A1100 is a 1U gateway server that will be able to connect to Promise’s Vess and VTrak storage systems in order to create a unified storage pool. The VSky A1970 is a 4U storage server with 70 drive bays that are accessible via two independent server nodes.  These appliance both support multi-tier flash caching and can be configured to provide data protection services including remote replication. Other enterprise storage functionality is available such QoS, snapshot, schedule snapshot, thin provisioning, data rebalancing, and VDI/server virtualization.
