pureSilicon has announced the Kage family of SSDs comprising a standard 2.5" SATA form factor, along with a slim USB 3.0 drive. The Kage K1 SATA SSD is aimed at workstation and light enterprise users and delivers on both endurance and performance with eMLC NAND, read speeds of 540 MB/s and writes of 520 MB/s. The Kage K1 USB drive offers a 4.5mm thick (the height of the USB port) unibody design that not only looks great, but cranks through 400 MB/s sequential read speeds thanks in part to the SSD controller and engineering approach.

Kage 1 SATA SSD
The pureSilicon Kage 1 SATA 6 Gb/s SSD fills an interesting gap, bringing an eMLC NAND SSD to workstations and other high performance use cases in the enterprise. Aside from the SandForce processor that delivers read speeds of 540 MB/s and writes of 520 MB/s, the Kage 1 SATA also features VoltStream, pureSilicon’s power supply design that monitors power quality and leverages capacitors to prevent data loss in the event of a power failure.
The Kage 1 SATA SSD will ship in capacities of 100GB, 150GB, 200GB, 300GB and 400GB, ranging in price from $975 to $2575.

Kage 1 USB SSD
The pureSilicon Kage K1 USB drive is built around a SandForce controller, like the SATA SSD that shares the Kage name, but the controller isn’t the only thing that drives the screaming 400 MB/s speeds. Much of the pace is due to the USB-attached SCSI interface that increases performance in large part because it supports deeper queue depths, up to 32, where most USB drives top out at just one.
The K1 USB drive will be available in 60GB, 90GB, 120GB, 180GB and 240GB capacities, ranging in price from $230 to $630.
